A Must Have for House Plan Enthisiasts
I am not sure if this book really is the best-selling book in the world on houseplants, but it is certainly one of the best written and moot inclusive and informative. Dr. Hessayon has sold over 1 million books on houseplants and it is easy to see why. The book is thoughtfully arranged and the section that identifies individual species of plants with pictures, care instructions and other tips. This section contains light and watering requirements for each plant along with other information such as dormancy periods and preferences. Nearly every question one could ask appears on these pages, yet they never seem cluttered or over-bloated. The pages are just the right size for a reference book, although I found myself reading the book like a novel. Perhaps that is the secret to Dr. Hessayon’s success. This book has been published in several editions, and there is a Part 2 that was released that I am eager to get a look at. It is hard to imagine that he left anything out of this book. He thoughtfully devoted several chapters to creating the best media and environment for houseplants, identification and remedies of certain diseases and treatment and prevention of insects. There is also an informative and well-illustrated chapter on how to propagate most plants from seeds, splicing, cuttings and grafting. To summarize, this book is a must-have for anyone who wants to learn about or raise hoiuse plants. It stands head and shoulders above others that try to imitate it. In addition to Part Two of The Houseplant Expert, Dr. Hessayon has also authored The New Fruit Expert, The Indoor Plant and Flower Expert, The Vegetable & Herb Expert, The Complete Garden Expert , The Rock and Water Garden Expert, The Garden DIY Expert, The Garden to Kitchen Expert, The Bedside Book of the Garden, The Expert Vegetable Notebook, The Flower Expert, The Indoor Plant and Flower Expert, The Flower Arrangement Expert, The Bulb Expert, The Orchid Expert, The Rose Expert, The Flowering Shrub Expert, The Tree and Shrub Expert, The Green Lawn Expert, and The Bedding Plant Expert as well as The Cat Expert and The Dog Expert.

Vast and Detailed plant info
This 1998 book is a superb reference volume for anyone wanting to know more about how to grow a variety of house plants. It is extremely comprehensive and very well organized. Some plant nomenclature may have changed since its publication, but overall it is just outstanding.

Welcome to the Jungle, the Cliffs Notes to Houseplants
I have had a lifelong passion for house plants and outdoor plants. When I first moved out to California, I took a job at a Nursery where I got a crash course in plants and horticulture. Their bible for plant care back then was the Sunset Western Garden Guide, which I also keep on my bookshelf.I needed a quick refresher course on house plants when some recent species of my house plants became sick and temperamental, so I turned to Dr. D.G. Hessayon's book "The House Plant Expert." I was impressed with the layout, illustrations and concise information included in this book and found it to be very helpful. Many times we know or recognize plants by sight but don't know their botanical name, this book helps. Great book on the basics, like Cliffs Notes for plants, that helps with repotting, spotting sickness and disease, what plants are conducive to what light, shade, etc. This book is loaded with photos and tips that will turn you into an expert. If you don't have time to read a book as detailed as the Sunset Western Guide, then this book is for you.I have owned plants that have lived for long time and continue to grow. I'm a guy with a green thumb (California sun is my secret). Anyway, I can see why this book is so popular and a consistent bestseller. My home is not a castle, it's a jungle and I get lost in it.

Used, but new condition book.
I bought a new book, but received a used one. You can see along the spine area the white marks from being used. There were also slight stains on the cover. The book smells like tea tree oil, also. It took 3 weeks to arrive.

I happy with it! Shipped quick.
The book is well loved (used) which is not a big deal at all. Still has miscellaneous papers in it and highlighted areas. Doesn't bother me though. It's a great resource for house plant lovers!

Have had this book since the 90s and just recently gave it to my niece. Found out I couldn't do without it so ordered another one. This is the only book you will ever need whether you are a beginner or a pro.
