Popular History at its Very Best
I was a young man in the 1980's when Time Life released its Old West Series. I remember well the fake raw hide covers on the multi-volume set. At the time, I remember thinking the series was middle brow history geared for a mass audience and not worthy for consideration by a "serious" would be historian. Oh how the years have changed me. I am no longer the cultural snob that I used to be."The Canadians" is popular history at its very best. Ogden Tanner is a strong writer and his text is both succinct and illuminating. The many photographs and reproduced paintings are first class and convey ideas in the way the written word can never do. "The Canadians" is a solid book that does a good job of telling a complicated history. Recommended!

Canadian History
As a native Canadian I enjoyed this excellent book very much. The struggles and hardships endured by the early explorers give a heartwarming read.

Lovely condition
For a second hand book The Alaskans was in a lovely condition considering it is 40 years old. The only downside was the barcode sticker was on the front of the book on the picture. Removal was difficult and pulled away some of the picture. Otherwise excellent value.
