Loved the story, hated the illustrations.
As is usually the case, I enjoyed the story thoroughly. I love the Valdemar series and have been a fan since the beginning. I own the soft cover books, and although the illustrations were a little on the dark side, they were not blobs of darkness. The illustrations that I see on my Kindle are.

Good, but with transcription problems
5 stars for the story line, which I have loved since my first copy, but 3-4 for the Kindle version which has some transcription issues. The beautiful images by Larry Dixon are unviewable (blobs of black, no shading pulled though at all) and there are enough typos including missing punctuation, missing spaces, and misspellings, to make it distracting at various points. This was present in Owlflight to some extent, but it is quite prevalent in this one.

A wonderful sequel
This book tied in all the legends of Valdemar and made them poignant once again. It introduces new heroes and heroines and some new animal champions as well. WARNING SPOILERS: I love the relationship between Darian and Keisha. I can't wait to read the third book.

Great story.
It’s a great story, but the execution of the illustrations was poor compared to the paperback. Poor contrast, gamma set wrong and too dark.

Her style is starting to grate on me
This book is not terrible, but compared to a lot of other fantasy on the market, and even some of her other books, it lacks something. Like most of her other work, this starts out slow, but unlike those others it never really picks up the pace. 75% of the book is just introducing characters and following them through their day, and even when the "action" begins, it isn't really much. A frustratingly high amount of the book is detailed description of things that don't need to be described in detail and following the characters though the process of them coming to terms with something. "Maybe this is the case. But then again, maybe this. And this could be it. I've never thought of that." Way too much of the book is telling us what someone is thinking like that. Something that really bugs me too is the extreme overuse of italics to put emphasis on words. She literally does this three or four times per page. It's just as annoying as a writer who uses exlamation points all the time. You don't need to emphasize everything, or else it loses its effect.I was apprehensive when I began reading the Valdemar books because the pretty horses on the cover made me think these books might be aimed towards kids or girls who dream about ponies. For most of the series, I didn't feel like that was the case, but in this series I do. There is something indescribable about the style that makes me think this was not intended for adults. It just doesn't seem suited for an adult intellect.

Good book!
Bought the book in paperback when it first came out. Finally bought it hard back after several re-reads. Love the series. Mercedes Lackey is the only author whose books I actually buy as opposed to getting from the library because I re-read them so often. Great story and great characters.

Another Valdemar favorite of mine
This book is a good continuation from Owlflight. Like the previous book I feel I get to follow the main characters as they develope. The storyline is easy to follow. This is also a great book to read while relaxing or travelling.

Boring to the core for at least 1/3 of the book
Owlsight is the sequel to Owlflight, which was a pretty nice read. Orphan boy gets trained in magic, big crisis, finds new family of nature loving, magic tree huggers. This second book starts off with several dozen pages of the description of life in Errol's Grove, a small town near the woods. A market, yarn, lace, dye, herbs... Yes, it's about *that* interesting. Then follow another several dozen pages of the description of the prequel's hero Darian and how he rides through the woods with his new family, meets more of his family, attends a wedding that is described in several pages detail and that is of no interest to anyone except possibly the fictional bride and groom, and meets a girl that he likes. For anyone who waited for a teenage drama here - no chance. He asks her and gets to sleep with her. It's a one-liner.I am now 1/3 through the book and nothing noteworthy has happened. I even found myself flipping pages, only scanning them for anything actually happening, and there wasn't. The author has set the mood and atmosphere of the foreign world quite well and it's peaceful and every-day as can be. As nice as that may be for the characters that's not what I want from a book. Sorry.

Amazing Book
I have loved Mercedes Lackey books since I was 10. They transport you to a completely different world. I have been looking for this series for years, and it is sadly not available in most stores. I was ecstatic when I found it on amazon, and it definitely lived up to my expectations.
