A must have for anyone with a sensory kiddo in their life!!
This book should be given to every parent, grandparent, and caregiver as soon as Sensory Processing Disorder is diagnosed in a child. My husband and I have had more "AH HA!" moments with this book (and the others written by Ms Voss) than we have experienced in a year and a half since our son's diagnosis. In a very easy to read and digest manner, Ms Voss outlines the basics of SPD and how it affects children. In turn, you will begin to see them through your own "sensory goggles". My husband has been reluctant to read much on SPD and struggled to understand our son. Since we received this book I have barely been able to get it out of his hands! He has learned so much and our son is reaping the benefits of both parents wearing sensory goggles. This book is truly a MUST HAVE for every one with a sensory kiddo in their life!

Perfect start to understanding SPD!
This is a perfect first book to get started in understanding sensory processing disorder. It's a cheap, quick read (like one long sitting) that explains SPD in simple language and is easy for parents to understand. Voss shares practical advice that can be implemented immediately. It does not delve very deeply into the sensory world, but it is a great first book that won't overwhelm parents new to SPD and will get them started quickly. I took away several great nuggets of information and am not new to SPD, as my daughter is a sensory-seeker. I highly recommend this one, not only as a jumping off point but as a reference you will go back to over and over!

great book simple and detailed
I bought this book along with the SPD book for traveling and practical daily book by the same authors - it nicely and concisely described WHY my daughter does what she does! Her grandparents are skeptical that she has SPD and this has helped me explain to them why she has a need to jump, throw her self around, bite things, spin, etc. I think its a must for any preschool or elementary school teacher that your child will encounter. Many of these behaviors can be regulated by allowing them to have their sensory cravings in a controlled way, and therefore avoid getting into trouble, which i am guilty of when i wasn't aware she had this problem. great book.

Very basic info -- OK if you're new to SPD
I thought this was going to be a book on SPD, instead it's a workbook that is an introduction to SPD. This is probably helpful for those who are new to SPD. However, my son who is going on 11 has had a history of SPD issues on and off. I emailed the author of this book through her website and asked her some specific questions, and she recommended this 'book' to me. There really wasn't any new information in it for me.However, again, if you're new to the world of SPD, this may be helpful to you. It is a very easy read, so it could be shared with others (grandparents, other caregivers) as well, to help them understand it.

The perfect overview of SPD
I highly recommend this to any parent trying to make sense of their out-of-sync child with Sensory Processing Disorder. This was a great introduction and overview to Sensory Processing Disorder. I'm now reading Out-Of-Sync Child which is a lot more in depth, but I'm so glad I read this one first as it gave me a great gist of this confusing and difficult spectrum disorder.

Amazing Resource
I finally got my copy of this today and devoured it! Such an easy, quick read that helps better explain SPD. Compared to the other books I've read on SPD, this one is far superior simply because it's so concise and easy to understand. For someone who hasn't slept in several years, this was very important to me! I look forward to recommending this to family members and anyone else who may not really understand out sensational kiddos.

Awesome book!
SPD is confusing. Even when you think you know what it is, your child might change, and you have to give yourself a refresher course. This is the go-to book for me! This book was written from the heart by an OT who is also a parent of a sensory kiddo. She has first-hand knowledge and experience - the kind all of us sensory parents are looking for. Great book. Great author (tremendous person!).

Have a sensory kiddo...read this book.
This book really helped me have a clearer understanding as my granddaughter is 2 and sensory. We now have OT helping us also thanks to learning from this book.

Spot on
Both daughter and I have SPD and other autism-spectrum issues (or special powers, as I tell my 7yo). As a parent, I have a duty to understand myself and my child. SPD has not prevented me from achieving unforeseen success (I am a Royal Society Research Fellow and enjoy fantastic international recognition), but my childhood was pretty miserable due to the complete lack of understanding of these issues back in the 1980's.This manuscript is an eye-opener. It is well written, contains useful tips and conveys all essential information - no anecdotes, silly examples or other typical book-fillers.

Easy to understand book.
This review is long overdue. Bought this book months ago. I love the simple language used. I love its layout with its huge letterings. It makes easy comprehension for a very stressed out mum with a hyper child. I wanted to understand why my child is chewing his nails to bits, nervous and constantly running around like a mad man and banging into things adn was super clingy. I needed answers and I need it NOW (well, that night many months ago). I finished this book in an hour (after i managed to settle my child to sleep at 3am) ...comb thru the book, and then i went to bed a happy mummy, knowing I had my answers and solutions to go with it.

It doesn't appear to be a professional job, which makes me doubt the wisdom of the content
I have just opened this and am sorry I spent money on it. It is littered with spelling mistakes and for some reason the facts are scattered across mostly empty A4 pages. It doesn't appear to be a professional job, which makes me doubt the wisdom of the content. Which brings me to the content... I am just starting out understanding SPD, and this is not the place to start. It's really confusing.

Recommend, as a parent of an SPD child
Love this book. An eye opener into SPD. I have now passed this book to other family members to educate them on our daughters differences. The book may seem thinner than you think but still packed with detailed info. I thought I knew all there was to know, from a parents perspective but this gave me a deeper insight.
