Aris Allen is known for making vintage style swing dance shoes and reproduction models that are more authentic equipment for dancing swing than ordinary ballroom shoes are. Their philosophy being that your dancing will look more authentic if you wear the same style of shoes the inventors of the dance were wearing. The heel is approximately 1 5/8" tall and just wide enough to feel quite stable. The adjustable "set-it-and-forget-it" buckle on the ankle strap allows you to set your desired fit and slip the strap in and out of the "J" hook closure without needing to readjust it every time you wear the shoes. The buckle is attached with a piece of elastic so it has a little "give" when you're up on your toes. Most women know which two sizes they fit best (like 6.5 & 7 or 8 & 8.5). To figure out which size you'll fit in these: Narrow width = you'll probably wear the smaller of the two sizes you usually fit. Average width = you'll probably wear the larger of the two sizes you usually fit. Wide width = you probably will not be happy with this style.

Not for me
I liked the styling, but there is a metal bar in the sole which I felt plus the sizing didn't work out. A Capezio style worked out better for me.

Very uncomfortable shoes
Very uncomfortable shoe. I felt the ridge of the heel on the arch of my foot. Could not even wear them around the house for 5 minutes. The thought of trying to dance all night in these shoes was unimaginable.Returning them today.

I had to return these. They aren't joking when they say they are for people with narrow feet. I couldn't even get the front of my foot into the shoe and I have average feet.

Can't say enough good things about these shoes!
I suffer poor balance and damaged nerves that affect my feet and so finding shoes that work well for me is very difficult. I purchased 3 pair of these shoes...black, silver and bone, in a 1/2 size up to accommodate the bit of extra width of the front part of my foot. 2 of the 3 fit perfectly except for the extra space at the heel. The quick release buckle saved the day. When I first put them on, I thought they'd never work but they did...and very nicely, I might add. I don't notice the extra room. I don't slide around or anything. The shoe looks great, even sexy ( other ladies assessments) on my foot. I don't notice any stretch in the foot, however the strap seems to have stretched a bit. I'll adjust the buckle soon. The pair that didn't fit was the high arch bone colored ones. I sold them to a friend. Possibly the high arch problem would have resolved itself since my feet seem to settle "in the groove" of where my arch is on the other 2 pair and the strap keeps them securely in place. I prefer hard leather soles and so I do not baby the suede soles. I wear them even outside and they are smooth now with no problems. I really love the heel. I have poor balance due to a surgery in the inner ear and nerve damage due to failed back surgery and the heel stabilizes me perfectly without stressing the nerves in my foot. I've never owned a pair of dress dance shoes that worked perfectly without hurting my feet. These are perfect. I've worn them several times a week for months now. About ready to try another pair of bone color if I can find them. Since they are satin and suede, I do not wear them outside when it's raining.

Strange arch
I love the low heel and 1920's look of this shoe. I first ordered my street shoes size (7 1/2). The shoe was very comfortable and I have bunions and other issues. But it was too big so I exchanged it for a 7 which fit perfectly with no pressure on the bunion. The problem is the arch. It is hard and feels like I'm being bruised. Fine if you're dancing on your toes as you won't feel it. Deciding whether to return them.

I like the low
These are some classy dance shoes. I like the low, wide heel - plenty of support for someone who is not used to heels. They fit comfortably (I have narrow feet, if that helps), and I've danced for probably 4 to 5 hours in them. The only problem is that there is no cushioning under the ball of my foot, which takes all the strain, so eventually my feet start to hurt there. But not for a good long while! The shoes actually look so good that I've decided to use my current pair as my fancy dress shoes, and order another pair for dancing in.
