Descriptive Page Turner With Unusual Charactor
I liked this book about greed, manipulation, serenity and redemption.Grisham's first chapter sucks the reader into the story like few beginnings I have encountered. The first person perspective of a bitter and lonely billionaire who plots his revenge on his children even as he has plotted his own death is riviting. When the story moves to inland Brazil, Grisham's narrative excels at explaining a remote yet beautiful land that few are aware exists. His characters likewise are well developed and beleivable in their roles. His portrayal of the several amoral lawyers borders on the hilarious and will serve to confirm many people's stereotypes of members of the bar. What separates this novel from othe works of Grisham is the presence of God in the life of several of the characters. Religion is a positive influence on those it touches in the story and serves as the fulcrum upon which the plot turns. This is the first fiction book I can recall reading where the strong faith of several major characters is treated as a positive defining aspect of their lives. In my experience, when I have encountered religion at all in fiction, it usually is presented as a character defect or held up to demonstrate the hypocrisy of those who do not practice what they preach. Grisham's treatment of faith as a central aspect of character and motivational force is refreshing and much more representative of how it affects most religious people.I read the book quickly over several days. Great opening, well developed and interesting characters, enough greed and money on the line to titilate and a good juxtaposition of faith and redemption. A winner.

What if you werre offered $111 Billion ?

Tshe has had no contact in eleven years, and she informs him that she has had in contact with her father in eleven years and has no interest in his money. This further complicates the situation in the U.S. The ex-wives and their children are spending the money on credit, and the lawyers are calculating their fees.

Just a great story line and read by one of the best in the business!
I was a mail carrier for my career and used to get downloads to listen to while walking all day. Grisham is just great and we are all familiar with his works. But this one I can listen to over and over again. Kinda like a favorite movie you just have to own and watch as often as you like.

Don’t Read in Bed Unless You Have Insomnia
I’ve read a decent amount of Grisham’s work and I can honestly say this was the worst yet. One poor, downtrodden, debt-burdened, tax-evading attorney has to go to an uninhabited part of the world to try to get a rich dude’s illegitimate daughter’s signature. That’s it. That’s the book: trying to get a signature. Talk about a snooze fest. I started this book three years ago and just couldn’t get through it. But I’ve been trying to finish books I once started on my Kindle as a personal challenge. SPOILER ALERT: The book gets real churchy at about the halfway point to the end. Not sure if Grisham was making the book a parable (don’t go to the jungle for a signature?) or just letting his faith be a cornerstone of the story. I’m okay with that as a Christian, but if I read fiction, it’s nice to take a break from doctrine. I’m afraid the the most stars I can give this book is three.

Spoiler alert!
Another great story from Mr Grisham. Different to the usual courtroom dramas, but nonetheless a compelling read. I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't previously read the 'Tear jecker' (sic) review, which was brief but still managed to give away a significant twist.
