Good Step-down Converter
The Step-Down Travel Voltage Converter was excellent for our needs. We traveled with it all over the UK and Ireland and did not experience any problems. As a per caution I had purchased extra fuses from Radio Shack Item# 270-1050 Fast Acting 1.5 amp 25-V Fuses, to take with us just in case we needed to replace the fuse that came with the converter. While I did not need to replace the fuse during the trip I was also careful as to what I plugged into the converter as to not overload the capacity of the unit.Pros:- The unit worked as indicated.- The unit was warm when in use but not hot like some other step-down converter that I had previously used.- The red light on the unit indicated when power being supplied.- The recessed on/off switch was nice.- The extended cord was very helpful in getting the converter closer to the items that needed power.- With use of a multi-plug, I was able to run several battery chargers at the same time without a problem ( cell phone charger, camera charger, etc.) * Use caution as to not exceed converter capacity.- Reasonable price.Cons:- Converter was heavy and somewhat bulky. (This was something expected, all previous used step-down converters are heavy. Bulky due to long cord.)- Converter had one outlet. ( Problem solved when I brought a multi-plug outlet.)- No information with regarding the fuse, nor was there information on the fuse that came with the unit. (Radio Shack I tested the old fuse and identified what amp I needed for spare fuse.)- Converter can only be use for low watt/amp electrical items.- After getting stopped a few times at customs due to converter showing up as an item of interest on scanner. I pulled out the converter and showed customs what I had before item went through scanner.I would recommend purchasing this converter to others.

Cheapest + Best Quality / Used in Europe and Africa.
Pros:- Down-converts voltage when running off of a generator in Sierra Leone, West Africa.Note: For safety reasons (because I didn't want to blow out my camera's battery charger) I also brought along a surge protector that has one of those little red trip-switches on it. It never did trip, but it was a good precaution to take because generators in West Africa can REALLY vary their voltage. This device is a wise precaution to have on hand when charging your expensive items. (rather have this $24 converter fail than my $300 iPhone, you know?)- Also plugged it in Lome, Togo (also West Africa) into a normal house outlet + my travel plug adapter. Worked great, charged everything I needed.- The male portion of the plug fit in my international plug adapter.- The female portion is American, so it fit my surge protector nicely.- Has a handy little rocker switch to turn it on or off.- Doesn't get too hot.- Excellent price. (like the best I could find anywhere on the internet)- Good cord length.Cons:- Heavy (but that's sort of expected for a down-converter). It's a solid little brick!- TSA will probably think it's something sketchy, due to its mass, and they'll probably will take it out and examine it if you're carrying it on the plane. Sort of a pain, but worth having it in the long run.Note: I would NOT use this with high-power items, like hair-driers. (If you're traveling, I'm sorry you'll just have to have messy hair. Wear a baseball cap.) But this works perfectly if you'd like to charge something like camera batteries (I needed to charge my Canon 60D batteries) or your iPhone.

A++
Just back from a trip to Ireland and this worked marvelously. Crazy as I am, I bought TWO for the trip thinking my load would be too much for one but it wasn't. Just bring a cheap plug-in strip with you when you travel, and an extension cord as the wall outlets aren't as numerous or convenient as what we're used to here in the states.

While a little heavy to carry it work great.
The converter with a mini outlet strip, allowed us to power hair curlers, phones & computers while in Ireland. While a little heavy to carry it work great.

CAUTION: Caught Fire while we were using it as instructed!
This cheap product almost caused a fire overseas. The item is advertised as "for UK...Ideal for laptops." Not more that 45 seconds after plugging in my boyfriend's laptop in the UK, this horrible "Power Converter" made in Southeast Asia started melting and billowing rancid smoke, then caught on fire. It was terrifying and would have destroyed the laptop had we not risked electrocution and pulled the plug. The sellers were HOSTILE when I reported it to them to ask for a refund. They wrote back in broken English something totally irrelevant and disrespectful. Better to buy a Power Converter at a reputable shop, not online.

Worked great in Ireland.
Used the charger with our ipad and it worked as we hoped it would. It weights 8 pounds--seemed a little heavy; that's what kept me from giving it a 5-star rating.
