Exactly what I was looking for
I really appreciate that I bought this book used but it looks practically new. I was expecting a bit of wear and tear but there is none. I am a Native American who did not grow up surrounded by elders who could teach me about my heritage. It is important to me to learn all I can about the Native way of healing, especially now during these times. I am building my collection of books that can help me with my journey. This one seems like a great addition. I haven't read it yet but looking through the pages, it looks like it contains priceless information. I cant wait to read it.

Honoring a great trasure
I found this book by lucky accident, "Honoring the Medicine: The Essential Guide to Native American Healing". I am interested in all kinds of healing and in Native Americans, so it seemed a great way to spend my time while waiting for a meeting. I ended up taking the book home and reading and rereading it.It is the story of a modern man who discovers himself and finds his place among tribal people as a healer. Ken Cohen is able to share his path and enlighten the reader while weaving a facinating story. Spirituality is inseperable from healing and indiginous healers understand this. Modern medical people should read this book and change how medicine is practiced today. There is a basic understanding of humanity and wholistic healing that the Native American healers share.I had friends who wanted to borrow it, but I was not willing to let it go. Thank goodness for amazon.com - I can buy copies for my friends and not have to give up my copy. I highly recommend this book.

Interesting book
enjoyed the book.Wish I could met and talk with a man that has had so many wonderful life experiences. There is so much precious knowledge out there and it is being lost or in danger of being lost or destroyed. So many different cultural practices are dieing out. And who benefits? Definably not the human race, as some of us are slowly discovering. Intention, faith, belief, action, This earth has so much to offer all. Its ridiculous how we abuse this earth and its people. In doing so we all will loose so much.Ancient knowledge and healing must be continued and taught to who ever wont's to practice it and pass it.Thank you K C for an interesting read as well as some practices I can incorporate in my life.

Perhaps the best book on Native American medicine and healing available.
Ken Cohen does a great job of conveying his in-depth knowledge of the subject matter with great clarity and a very enjoyable writing style. Aside from learning the value of honoring the medicine, I also learned a lot about Native American philosophy and the virtues of honoring the earth and all things in both the natural and spirit realms. I honestly believe that if more people lived by the ways taught in this book, the world would be a much better place. Great read!

Understanding the sacredness of tradition.
I have had the good fortune to talk with the author and wife.. I have always loved the native American people and their deep spirituality.this is a great book to go widen one's spiritual connections to the Creator as one steps on to the road of their own spirituality. This is a scared fined. To be held in great reverence.

A Sacred doorway into traditional healing ways.
This book has many levels of spiritual sharing. I find it depends on where I am at in my life what page will open to speak. Have read this book over and over...using it to connect to the mystery of life. Trust everything written, because I know this man and his sacred intentions. Am ordering more for gifts!

A very interesting read
As someone who is pursuing the same calling, I am very much enjoying this book. I am a non-Native, one of the Maka Oyate, who is researching and practicing Native medicine. It is very helpful to receive the understanding of someone who is already where I want to be, given the reluctance of Native elders to teach their medicine ways.

A good place to start
I've done some training in Native American Healing so I was a little disappointed. I was looking to build on what I knew, but for someone new to their healing ways it is a lovely little book.

Excellent Resource
Excellent detailed resource for those wanting to learn more about Indigenous Issues (i.e., cultural misappropriation; political correctness) Contains detailed descriptions of many healing traditions and practices, with comparisons to beliefs in various world religions. Good comparison of western and Native American medicine. The author provides scientific support from medicine and psychology to support Indigenous approaches to healing without overwhelming the reader with scientific data. Contains the best description I've seen to date of the 'Four Directions'. The reader is left with a strong sense for the importance of spirituality; of cultivating good physical health and positive mind.

I believe this would be an impressive and useful tool for anyone interested in learning more about oft ...
This was not what I expected. I wasn't sure what to think when I first pulled it off the shelf. Once I pulled it it off the shelf, I found it hard to put back up.As a 50+ year old woman I can tell you that if a book makes me sit on the floor because I don't want to take time to go find a chair...I'm taking that to the counter.I believe this would be an impressive and useful tool for anyone interested in learning more about oft spoken ceremonies and medicine. The transfer of Indigenous knowledge from one person to another or to a group is a serious thing. Honouring The Medicine is one for your library. It was written with many blessings and encouragement from knowledgeable and respected teachers because they knew he could do it well. Kenneth Cohen's beautiful and near poetic delivery of the information leaves you feeling moved by the simple power of knowledge. I'd be surprised if you only read it once. And I met him - he's everything you would expect him to be after reading his book. And his wife Grace is awesome!

Beautiful
This is a beautiful book. Kenneth Cohen, an adopted member of the Cree Nation, has followed Native American ways for all his adult life. His knowledge of First Nations healing techniques is profound, and, above all, useful to the reader. There's so much to learn here. I especially enjoy how Cohen links Native traditions to others, such as Judaism.I highly recommend this book, especially for those who aren't satisfied with the sort of "healing" taught in weekend workshops or by people who don't walk their talk.
