The Flag with Fifty-Six Stars
A wonderful story about the strength of prisoners during WWII in a forced labor camp. Little by little, scraps of material were stowed away from guards as the prisoners decided to make a gift for the Americans whom they hoped would free them. The inmates had no idea how many stars should be on the flag, so they made it with even rows - 56 stars. As the Americans were approaching the area, plans were to seal all inmates and townspeople in to moutainside and blow it up. Thanksfully, the Americans arrived in time. The flag today is on display in California.

very touching
A beautifully written and beautifully illustrated book about the gratitude of people who survived brutal incarceration in the Nazi concentration/death camp of Mauthausen to their "liberators" -- the American soldiers who discovered and opened up the camp, allowing their inital release from the horrors, plus medical attention and more.Perfect for children from age 10 or so, and still interesting for adults as well. Very touching!

I sobbed while reading this amazing story...
This story and accompanying images will absolutely cause your heart to break with sadness and overflowing joy at the same time. The author and illustrator, both, do a fantastic job of portraying the joy and gratitude of the liberated concentration camp prisoners when they are freed by the American troops. What an awesome story...

Not just another holocast sad story
Good book on the spirit of the human race, and that USA was a great hope of saving those whom others had ignored.Great citizens of the world looking to America for help, knowing USA would come to the rescue at all costs.Amazing strength and knowledge these prisoners had, we are blessed that all were not killed, but survived to tell this tale. Thank you!
