Under the Sweetwater Rim: A Novel

Action Packed
L'Amour at his best. Hero (Lt. Brian Tennadore) fights through obstacles; overcomes his evil adversary Reuben Kelsey. Chivalry is alive and well. He proves his valor; exhibits his honest character; wins the respect of Major Devereaux and the Major's lovely daughter, Mary.

LAmour at his best!
He always gives a beautiful description of the country the story is in. He also tells of the feelings of the characters. Start to finish, he weaves a tale that is hard to put down!

Good Guy Book
I read Down the Long Hills and was blown away. The detail and never quit attitude in an unwinnable but believable situation struck me.In this one though, similar themes but less believable chapters gave me a strong belief that I knew the ending before it happened.(Mild, Unspecific Spoiler Alert)I stopped fearing to turn the page. At a point, I knew everything was going to be hunky dory. And when you get that feeling completely, how often are you wrong? Maybe Louis L'amour was fulfilling a common sales requirement. Marvel does it. As did the hacks that finished Game of Thrones. Named characters can only be killed by named characters. Grunts are fodder. And I feel like this book is exactly the same.Apologies to the ghost of Louis L'amour. Critics are a dime a dozen. It's just my honest take. If anyone reading this happens to know a more gritty/realistic title of his, I would be grateful if you would leave it in the comments. Happy reading!

An enjoyable read
I'm a new reader of this famous author. This book did not disappoint. I enjoyed the story and no lull in events as in some novels. I definitely will be reading more Louis L'amour.

Another good one
As always great writing. Well developed characters. Story is written in a way the readers can feel, see, and become part of it.

I just can't help myself when it comes to reading Louis L'Amour's books.
I always have several of L'Amour's books on hand, ready to read for the second, third, or fourth time. The first time around came nearly 30 years ago. I kept them all, but--too late--I discovered that where I'd been storing them (in my late mother-in-law's garage) caused them to attract mildew and mold. So I started buying and reading them all over again; this time I'm going a better job of keeping ans storing them. Louis L'Amour's books now are part of my personal library--nearlhy 3,000 books. I'm a writer and use many non-fiction books in my research. I'm happy that his family keeps discovering and republishing many of his old (and now forgotten) short stories.

Consummate Western
Louis L'Amour writes the consummate western story; good guys, bad guys, horses, fightin', shootin' and sometimes a bit of romance. He also weaves well-researched backgrounds, actual geography, towns, trails, Indians, gunfighters, marshals extant at the time into the stories. In short, all of L'Amour's tales, including Under the Sweetwater Rim, are thoroughly engaging, entertaining, educational and enjoyable. I recommend this and his other books.

I good historic yarn
I remember my father reading these years ago -- so thought I would give it a try - this is a good yarn as with all 1960's books some of the term's - phrase's are dated but this does not detract from the story once you twig it
