Superman: Brainiac Attacks

Horrible Luther casting and script.
3.5 out of 5. This movie seems more like a bad two parter from the series. Great having some of the original voice actors back and it looks great. Plot is pretty good but some of the details and jokes just aren't up to the standards of the show. Luther however wasn't the best casting, however he is great as Grod in JL so he could've pulled this off except the script for Luther was atrocious. Completely destroyed the character and turned him into a bumbling, childish, silly dummy.

Come on, Get serious.
Alright seriously this movie has received more bad reviews then it deserves. It's really not bad at all. There are however several things you need to keep in mind before you watch the movie. This movie stands alone. It is in no way associated with the DCAU or Superman: The Animated Series in particular. Sure the animation style is similar but the movie came out a whole six years after the series ended. So when you watch this movie treat it as something that is entirely new. If however you don't leave your prejudices behind when you watch this movie your going to hate it.Something I see a lot of people complaining about is Lex Luthor's voice and personality. People will complain that he is cheesy and has horribly written lines. Well knowing this going into the movie I actually found this trait quite humorous. It was pretty funny to see Lex Luthor as such a silly character with a bunch of lame puns. The way I see it since it was a standalone they can reinvent a character anyway they want from a serious villain to a comic relief one. This concept stands true for almost everything in the film. Just because something is not exactly the same people get all pissed off and thing it's just a bad movie. It is the right of the creator to interpret the elements of the series for themselves. This is how we've seen so many different Batman shows and movies.I would just like to end with a couple of things about this movie that I liked in particular. Brainiac being integrated into a satellite was pretty awesome and made for a nice long action sequence. It was also cool to see the phantom zone used so creatively. Lastly I thought it was funny that they referenced Green Lantern and Mr. Mxyzptlk

It ain't right but it's not bad
Alright so another guy on here wrote that he never reviews purchases but chose to review this one. Same here. I grew up with Superman: TAS and I love it. Tim Daly is almost as iconic as Superman as Kevin Conroy is as Batman. Most of you reading this review probably liked the 90's series as well. Maybe you continued on to watch the Justice League and the various movies in DC's animated universe as I did. That's great. This movie is not one of those. I knew that going in and came out thinking that it wasn't so bad. The biggest flaws have been mentioned. 1) The story was clearly written for the younger viewer. There are NO twists or moments that make you lean forward in excitement. In fact, you will probably think, "Okay...why are they explaining that to us (e.g. what the Fortress of Solitude is)." Whatever, it's cool. Go with it. 2) Lex's voice talent. Horrible casting. Also something you have to power through. The part is written to sound immature, almost like they were trying to make him the comic relief. If you think of it as a period where he's driven a bit mad by Superman, it's a bit less distracting. In my opinion, the show has several positives. 1) Tim Daly. I'm almost positive that they got Johnathan Kent back too. 2) Character design based on the animated series. 3) Good running time. 4) Personally, I didn't find the art at all disturbing. Sure, it is variable but nothing unforgivable. Watch for the scene, though, where we learn that Superman doesn't quiet know how to swim.Bottom line: It's just down right fun to see a new story...so long as you go into it expecting an Elseworld's tale. It is not, by any stretch, connected to any of the series episodes or animated films.

Are the 1-star reviewers even watching the movie?
Come on, people! Yes, this is not a Timm/Dini production, but it still rocks! "Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman" also wasn't a Bruce/Timm production, and it was one of the best DC Animated Universe movies ever! True, I hate "The Batman," but still - the writer did an excellent job here.Pros (good things):1) The plot is very good.2) Tim Daly is back as the voice of Superman.3) Finally - the Super Kiss!4) Funny like Timm/Dini humor, and no overdone jokes.5) Jimmy Olsen has a better hair style.6) Brainiac is the villain, image a movie with Luminus as the villain - NO WAY!7) Lex Luthor is more like in the live-action movies.8) The Phantom Zone and the Fortress of Solite are better drawn, in my opinion.9) Clarks's and Louis' romantic relationship is very improving.10) It's a Superman animated movie!Cons (bad things):1. The voice actors providing the voice of Lex Luthor, Mercy Graves, and Brainiac are different.2. No SUBTITLES or SPECIAL FEATURES (besdies Trailers) whatsover, regarless of the DVD's back cover. In conclusion, buy it! It's not the animated series, but it still rocks!

a disappointment
I have mixed feelings towards this made-for-DVD film.On the one hand, it is animated in the style of the 'Superman: The Animated Series' - which is a fantastic show. And it uses many of the same voice actors as that series. But ... and it's a BIG but ... the film was written and produced by people entirely unconnected to the series. And it shows. There are so many inconsistencies, it becomes almost painful to watch. It just doesn't "fit" with what had previously been created. As such, I consider this to be a missed opportunity.I suspect young kids will enjoy it. I actually liked a short segment of it (when Superman visits the Phantom Zone). But, overall, I was disappointed.

Great
I really enjoyed it, but I just wished that Clark would hav just told the truth that he was indeed Superman, but overall I'd say that this was a great movie to watch for anyone who enjoys DC Universe.

Meh- OK Superman Movie
The media could not be loaded. This movie is all right for a stand alone. The animation style of this movie is similar to the original animated series. Storyline however, does not generate the same excitement as the tv show. There is also no special features, just trailers. Despite this, the movie is entertaining.
