If you are looking for Forty Gospel Homilies written by Pope Gregory the Great, translated from Latin into well-written, readable English, then this is the book for you. As to the worth of the content, I will not speak save to say that I personally find him very insightful and his homilies edifying; you may disagree, but you will have to read the work first to find out :)

The sermons read very well and the translation is smooth. The sermons are long enough to be satisfying but brief enough to read in five minutes.St Gregory presents simple Christian truth for each Sunday.My only criticism of this book is that they have taken the writings of an Orthodox father (pre-1054 schism when Rome was excommunicated) and inserted phrases like "the mass" where more authentic language would have been more suitable.Recommend this book to all orthodox readers.

These homilies don't seem as dated as you'd perhaps imagine.
