Double Deal: The Inside Story of Murder, Unbridled Corruption, and the Cop Who Was a Mobster

Wicked page-turner!
Just finished Double Deal and what an incredibly explosive book. I grew up in Chicago Heights, so I’ve been researching the mob history there, which lasted a good 100 years. My uncle’s dad was also on the jury that convicted Capone for tax evasion, so I’ve always been interested in mob history. Doing mostly casual reading. This book was a jaw-dropper. The staggering amount of corruption is mind-blowing, and Corbitt’s life experiences are terrifying and compelling. Giancana is a good writer, it’s a breeze reading this book because the content is so shocking and the style is as though you’re listening to someone talk in plain fashion. One person who seems to be one of the dirtiest bastards that ever lived is Hy Larner. I’m glad Corbitt got this on paper, as Larner was a shadowy, evil person who worked behind the scenes. Not much on this guy, but let’s just say, after I did some research, his name comes up in the files in JFK’s assassination. Read every page of this book, all the way to the very end.In Corbitt’s own words - “There’s a good chance somebody’s gonna get whacked over this book ... I don’t care. Far as I’m concerned, they had it coming.”Highly recommend!

what i liked most was the area in which all this happened i spent most of my life in. Also the first book that i personally met three of the main characters

Double Deal
Honest and hard hitting, the story of a man who became a bad guy but always retained a good heart to the end, Mike Corbitt indirectly hurt a lot of people, he intentionally also helped a lot of people too. A cop and mobster. A good cop who did good and bad. You can't applaud Corbitt for all he did, but some of it; the book, while brutal in many ways, depicts a man's life that is a microcosm of the world, and the very fine lines between the very best and very worst that sometimes exist in what life has to offer.Dave Bayer

An excellent revelation of a lifetime in crime.
Found this very interesting coming from a mafia insider. Seemed to be historically accurate.

Real Life Page Turner
An amazing inside story (of the Chicago Outfit) by Sam Giancana the son of the late Chuck Giancana & the nephew of the late crime boss Sam "Momo” Giancana.

Great book about the bent nose crew.
If you live now or lived near the sw burbs of Chicago, this is a must read. The streets and locations will be familiar to you even if you did not know what when on inside of the buildings. Allegedly, and I ain't sayin' nohtin' about nobody. This book is good because it just tells the story without too much drama. You know, it's just business.Truly a fun read and just a little bit unsettling when you think about what went on around everyone. Gee, I'm glad those days are over, huh?

Double Deal summary
I personally found this book an excellent read although I was skeptical when I purchased the book.I've read many books about the American Mafia but not many on the Chicago Outfit from an insiders viewpoint and this doesn't disappoint in the slightest.Lots of stories about infamous figures inside the Outfit and he really gives a graphic account of what life was like in the mob.If your like me and struggle these days to find a generally original and first hand account of the Mafia thats actually worth printing then you won't be disappointed, its quite a revelation.

More Insights into the Chicago Mob of Sam Giancana
The extent of corruption in American public life is now becoming clear to everyone who takes an interest in such things. This book, being a first person confessional narrative, gives detail that most of the conspiracy theory websites and YouTube videos lack and is more interesting as a result. It's also well-written and Mr Corbitt emerges if not as a hero then as a villain I for one can easily identify with. In his situation how differently would I have acted? I don't know. It's a bit of a companion volume to Double Cross so if you enjoyed that then I think you'll enjoy this too.
