Dragonbreath #8: Nightmare of the Iguana

Transformed our "Reluctant Reader" to a "Rabid Reader"
My husband and I have always been voracious readers and academic overachievers--NERDS. We couldn't find the words to express our frustration when our daughter who is "academically gifted" and in a special school with accelerated curriculum turned out to be a "reluctant reader". Although she earned straight As, she remained unmotivated to read and God knows we tried EVERYTHING while attempting to remain calm about it.Somehow, we stumbled across this series. The well developed characters, page turning story lines, outstanding humor and illustrations not only engaged her; they hooked her! As we lay in bed, my husband and I could hear raucous laughter coming from our daughter's room long after we'd thought her to be asleep. Once she'd gotten up to speed with Dragonbreath, she moved on to other series and styles as MIss Vernon cannot supply our demand quickly enough! Before we knew it, our reluctant reader had suddenly became a rabid reader!Curious as to what was so funny, I read the book and enjoyed it so much that I highly recommended it to my husband. Once, while awaiting the next installment in the series my daughter wrote a letter to the author and "outted" my husband and me telling Ms. Vernon what huge fans we were (and remain to this day)!

Makes reading fun!
My 7 year old advanced reader has read every single book in this series and giggles along the way. My nine year old has read them and enjoyed them as well. Nice way to get them to read while they actually enjoy it. Ideal for advanced readers that are struggling with chapter books. These books have advanced vocabulary but the storyline and images help keep their attention.

Awesome books series with lovely and fun art!
I love everything Ursula does. This series is fun for any age, it is sneaky that way. Support her writing and her lovely art by getting and sharing this book with friends, young and old!

Another fabulous Danny story!
It's nice to keep watching Danny get more mature and confident. He's always been a bit rash, but at least now he's thinking about consequences.I think my favorite part of this book was the nerdy Star Trek joke, but there is a lot for an adult to get out of this in addition to the joy that the kiddos get from it.Suki is a perpetual delight to me. And Wendell's dreams are so perfectly what he would have nightmares about. Bran waffles and pop quizzes!Read if: You have liked other Dragonbreath books. You are a fan of kids getting agency AND help from trusted adults.Skip if: Adorable cartoon reptiles are not your style. Also read: The other books in the series.

Love this series
I am so excited that the Dragonbreath series is still going strong, we have all of the books and now can happily add this one. It is a little darker than the other books but we are reading during the day time so as not to freak my 6 yr old out. She loves them! Great book!

Great read!
This is a child's book, but it is very well written and I enjoyed it, too! All of the Dragonbreath series are great reads! I encourage you to get these for adventure seeking kids about age 10 and up! This one is about dreams and how they can be overcome.

So Excited to Get It!
Dragonbreath is one of the most popular series in my classroom! I had a waiting list of students who were going to read it when it finally arrived. The students who have already read it said it was great, and they have already been asking when the next one is coming out (August 29th).
