Design Disappointment
I first came across this butter spreader at Japan House in Kensington and loved its sleek, minimalist design. It looked beautifully made, and I thought it would be a useful addition to my kitchen. However, after ordering it on Amazon and using it a handful of times, it’s now found its way to the back of my utensil drawer. While it certainly looks great, it doesn’t perform as well as I’d hoped. I can draw the butter easily enough, but actually spreading it onto bread is quite difficult — which rather defeats the purpose. In short, it’s a lovely-looking product, but unfortunately it doesn’t deliver on function.

Not good for spreading butter
I bought it to make it easier to spread butter from a block. Sadly it does the opposite. It's easier to use a normal knife.

Great product that helps soften straight from the fridge butter, gets a good spread on toast.

Surprised how well this product is designed. Absolutely brilliant. One piece, thick stainless steel with sharp grates. Superbly engineered and manufactured in Japan. This is something Apple would design. That good!

This tool/knife makes thin noodle like shaving of butter which spread and melt easily on my toast. Does what it does well and it looks good too! Most importantly, it's made in Japan and not China so no worries on the actually metal use to made this. I had too many nasty surprises with Made in China garbage so I always go out of my way to buy non-China made items especially on something I use with my food.

One of my favourite kitchen tools! This whisk has a quality finish that doesn't scuff or scratch easily; the handle is very lightweight, but does not feel flimsy or cheap. It is long enough to reach into jars, yet won't topple over when left in a small/shallow bowl (I can't emphasize this enough!). Stores easily, and fits nicely into most apron/sleeve pockets. I have no complaints whatsoever. I love this whisk so much, I may buy a second -- just in case the first breaks 20 years from now and I can't find a replacement. 120% would recommend!
