Single largest collection of truly exceptional planes. . . for enthusiasts
This is one of two "must have" paper airplane books that are out there for serious folders.I have collected almost every paper airplane book in or out of print that I could find in the last few years as I discovered that paperflight was a great way to combine two of my hobbies: paragliding and origami. So being the obsessive that I am for these sorts of things, I started rounding up every book on the subject and I discovered that there are really just two books that I couldn't do without: this book and LaFosse's "Planes for Brains."Inside this book you will find all of Mr. Collins' most useful and elegant models with a few exceptions that can be found in his first book, "The Gliding Flight." The "Suzanne" model which was used to set the distance world record referenced in the title of the book is really the most elegant and impressive plane model around. It is simple enough that anyone over 6 or 7 could fold it, but it just goes and goes. Forgoing the tape and using nose or fuselage locks makes for a go-to plane in any situation. Two others not to miss in this book which were included in earlier books of his are the "Starfighter" and the "Boomerang." Both are great, especially the latter. With some practice at both folding and flying, the Boomerang is too much fun. And how Collins ever figured out how to fold this plane is a mystery as its folds are rather non-intuitive, however it is definitely worth learning. There seems to be some dissatisfaction regarding this book in that the models are too complex. They are complex, but they are not the most complex around. They are, however, the most accomplished around. The models in the LaFosse book mentioned above are really beautiful and have their own genius to the folding (they are even more complex), but they do not perform as well as Collins' planes do. If you are looking for a rudimentary paper airplane book, I would recommend the Klutz book as it is simple, but has some useful ideas for kids to explore with.Hope that helps.

Not for small kids. Read ALL the instructions
I bought this for my software development team, to demonstrate how testing and adjustment applies to things other than code. This book talks a lot about trial and error. Before starting any airplanes, be sure you have perfectly flat, lightweight 8 5" X 11" paper. Also, be sure to read about the different folds and the markings used in diagrams. Be sure your folds are precise and tight. After that, you'll be ready to get flying! These airplanes are generally a moderate to difficult build, not intended for the average child under 12 years old.I like tgatthebook is composed of paper that is not overly bleached. Thank you for sharing our world a little less pollution!

I can’t believe how great these planes fly
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. These airplanes are game changers. I have made simple planes all my life, but they didn’t fly great. The instructions are easy to follow and the planes fly fantastic once tuned like it says in the book.

Awesome book, made a boy really happy
A friend of mine (he is 10), is really into paper airplanes. He is also an origami expert. During a park outing a while ago, he told me about this guy that came up with this airplane that won the world record.I got him this book, so he had something to do during a summer where people can't really go places. It put a huge smile on his face and he got right to it.It has a lot of airplane instructions in it, with detailed instructions on how to fold them. What I have been told, that they are a bit complicated and it helps, if you have done origami before.

Stick with the old World Record Airplane book.
Instructions are difficult to see clearly (due to the font and coloration of the print) and follow --Also, the paper plane templates do not have the bright colors or folding lines that make the previous World Record Airplane Book so terrific.

Not your ordinary paper planes
This book has good clear instructions on how to fold some very unique paper aircraft. You can clearly see the origami art mixed into the science of these fantastic flying sculptures. The Boomerang plane is Amazing. It circles so you can catch it. Too Fun! Following the photo illustrations made folding this intricate plane relatively easy for me. I'm always frustrated with written or poorly illustrated instructions. The story of the Guinness world record breaking plane makes this book all the more desirable. John Collins obviously knows a lot about paper airplanes to get his glider design to break a 9 year old record. The dichotomy in his and the former world record holder's design is fascinating. The record breaking event is a Great read!I loved the book so much I bought 5 of them. One for me and four for my friends children's Birthdays.Recently, I saw John Collins, "The Paper Airplane Guy", on the Conan O'Brien show. He was very funny and genuine. But, it was his paper airplanes that stole the show!Making and flying the planes in this book will make you smile, laugh and feel like a kid again.

My son loves this book, but there is some unnecessary confusion.
My son loves this book! There is some unnecessary confusion due to print quality and cutting off the picture without a break line symbol, but once I figured that out, it was manageable. Still, a puzzle at times for those reasons. But one plane, "Walk This Ray," is even missing some steps! At least I think it is, near the end. If not, I would love some help with that one. My 6.5 year old son is absolutely in love with making paper airplanes. He can't quite read yet, and yet was so determined, he has done all of the planes in this book. Most, without my help. That is more a testament to his interest and skills than the ease of the book. But if you have a paper airplane lover, they will probably love this book. It's our first paper airplane book. After we do a few more books, I'll come back and update my review to compare.

Lack luster at best ...
Got this book for my kid and I screw around with something inside the house, since it been raining so much. This could of been a really cool book, it’s just executed poorly. The instructions seem to be lacking and the image quality is poor. I have 1970’s baseball card with better resolution. Kind of makes it difficult to figure out what’s going on. Save your money and just YouTube it. Wish I did.
