Fifties Flashback: The American Car Hardcover – April 4, 2012

I like to read about automotive history.

My brother was born in the early 40's and loved the cars of the 1950's when he began to drive. He was always drawing pictures of the cars of the era in his school notebooks and hoped to become a car designer. He moved to Detroit in the early 60's and lived near one of the production plants. His love of classic cars never left him and owned several and participated in car shows. He is now very ill and under nursing care. I sent him this book for his birthday and he was delighted to receive it and share it with other residents. It helps infirmed patients to relive their past and keeps them mentally alert. He had a partial hip replacement at that time and the book was a greatly appreciated surprise.

Very nice!!!It has many photos, hard cover, clean nice pictures, and it has lots of information. We bought it for my husband's father for Christmas, whom grew up in the 50's and it the biggest American Classic Car collector I know and he loved it.I am always very hesitant about the books we buy for him because he is very particular with what he wants, we always get his books at Barnes & Noble because we can skim them book before buying it, but this was last minute. Sooo worth it!

This was a gift to a schoolmate. We graduated in '57. He had one of those cars and loved the book.

A bright, glitzy photo-op showcasing some of the best of the 1950s DETROIT IRON. I have always considered the 1950s to have been the epitome of American auto style. It does not surprise me that Detroit collapsed, and that American cars do not sell as well as many foreign ones. What can you expect when every car basically looks alike ... the cooker-cutter look. Back then, each marque had its own personality, its own distinctive look ... I could identify each model from a mile away ... now I don't even care; they all look alike. Books like this one help me to recapture some of the thrill of looking at, and into, those gorgeous Detroit Dinosaurs.

Gave this book to three men in my family. Well talk about the perfect gift...this was it. How lucky could I get getting the perfect gift at a very reasonable price besides. I even got phone calls the next day to thank me. The age group I gave this book to was between 50 - 77 years old...PERFECT!

Lovely book I bought as a gift for my husband. But when I took it out of the box I found the front cover was torn. Very disappointing as it is a gift. Otherwise a nice prompt service.

Fantastic reading for American cars enthusiastics... I really loved to read and full with great pictures!!! I can recommend to anyone it is good deal!!!

A fine historical record

This was a present for my husband that loves anything with a motor in it and especially classic cars. There are some nice car pics with a little bit of back ground. Nice coffee table book. A good addition to car buff's library.
