Four-time Grammy-nominated Anoushka Shankar, “one of the greatest sitar players in the world” (Rolling Stone), presents Home: a pure Indian classical album that showcases the meditative and virtuosic qualities of the Indian raga. Home will be released on Deutshe Grammophon on July 10, 2015. After several stunning experimental/crossover albums, including the Grammy-nominated recordings Rise, Traveller and Traces Of You, Anoushka returns to her classical roots, paying homage to the teachings of her father and guru Ravi Shankar. Home features two ragas, one of which is a creation of Ravi Shankar’s, and with them Anoushka shares an intimate, heartfelt live performance in the traditional style. Home is a paradigm of the Indian Classical genre, exemplifying the unique dichotomy between the ancient structure and in-the-moment improvisations. Home is self-produced by Anoushka, and on it she strove to record the ancient instruments at an unprecedented, “high-definition” quality, working with a team of experts to design a studio in her own home that would be uniquely suited to the timbre of her instrument. A beautifully penned treatise on Indian classical music written by Ravi Shankar in 1965 accompanies the album. With Home, Anoushka continues her journey exploring modern and fresh ways to reinterpret and keep alive the beautiful musical traditions of India. Ravi Shankar once said: “There is a saying in Sanskrit - "Ranjayathi iti Raga" - which means, "that which colours the mind is a raga.” With “Home” Anoushka does just that. Tracks Listing1. Guru : Raga Jogeshwari2. Alaap3. Jod,Jhala4. Gat In Rupaktaal5. Celebration : Raga Manj Khamaj6. Aochar,Dadra,Teentaal,Coda

Audio quality and balance of sitar & tabla
Beautifully rendered plucking. Low notes are pleasing. I did not hear such low notes in her father's playing. Sitar / tabla balance is slightly wrong. Left piece( bayan or dugga) should have more goonj (reverberation). To sum up it is music for the soul.

An artist's coming of age
There are people who hate Anoushka for no fault of hers... just because she got breaks being a famous father's daughter. Then there are those who are smitten by her personality and are her fans, And then there are some and I belong to the category, that treat her as any other artist and appreciate for what she is at her music. Frankly, I feel she has evolved in her sitar playing a great deal over the last fifteen years and 'Home' is a testimony to that. Don't go expecting to hear Ravi Shankar. Anoushka has her own plucking which is feminine and soft (to my liking), and he style is more lyrical like Vilayat Khan than energetic like Shankar. She has a long way to go with her development to a master status, but what we have hear is immensely listenable, and her rendition shows that she has started improvising and understand her own music well.

Wonderful music
I am new to Indian classical music, most of my collection being western classical. This is a most entertaining CD and helps open up a whole new sound world - superb playing and absorbing music. I tried this one out after purchasing a few of her dad's recordings - also wonderful.

Great Introduction
Wanted to obtain a CD of Indian music by Anoushka Shankar after hearing her on the radio. This is a good introduction to her and Indian music and a very good price. I play it when I'm cooking and eating a curry with friends.
