A Bird-Finding Guide to Mexico (Comstock Books)

Helpful book, even if it is quite outdated at this point.

Although it is 10 years old we found Howell's guide very useful in terms of both identifying groups of birds likely to be found in various habitats via checklist format as well as the specific routes to be taken. His advice to search out your own remains most useful but for a novice such as myself the book is a great framework.

I expected to see pictures of the birds so I could identify them from the pictures that were published in the book.

Not what I expected - but OK

The book fell apart immediately. It was supposed to be in good condition.The location I wanted to know about was listed as covered, but there is only one paragraph with mention of a few birds.No one place is covered completely, rarities you might see there are not covered for the areas I have checked out.Too small of a book for the area covered. It might give you an idea of some places to go if yu were in the area.

Very detailed descriptions on how to find birds anywhere in Mexico. Glad I bought this book and will read it again and take it along all my future trips.

Exactly as advertized

Not what I expected. It's a book of maps rather than an illustrated bird species reference guide.

Quite good

As a general guide to birding in Mexico, this book is a good introduction. As a guide to specific areas, some of the information is too focused on how to get to destinations. From my point of view, I would like more information on how to find local birding guides who can lead to good birding spots in different habitats.

Disappointed. As a simple easy to use guide for basic bird identification, not helpful. Not for the novice.
