One of my favorite children's books for 40 years running
I grew up in Wisconsin, where Lorna Ballian, the author lived. This book was one of my favorite childhood books and I was over the moon to read it over and over with my daughter. It is dreamy and funny and the illustrations are almost edible!

Adorably Cute Story that kids will love for years!
This was my daughter’s favorite book to check out of the library when she was small. She’s almost grown now and requested a copy. It’s an adorably fun little story with cute illustrations.

I prefer the original version....
I loved this book as a child, but this one is a different version from the book first published in 1976 (which is the one from my childhood). The author, Lorna Balian, is the same, but the illustrations are not her original ones. While the story is still fun and while I respect that the author wished to work with her daughter on the re-release of the book, it was Lorna Balian's original artwork that I most wanted to see again after all these years, rather than her daughter's new, computer-rendered ones. When it comes to children's books, I prefer artwork that has been drawn and colored by hand. I did some digging and learned that this 1994/2005 reprint has a completely different ISBN # from the original 1976 book, which Lorna Balian illustrated herself. For anyone else interested in revisiting a 1970s childhood with the original book, its ISBN # is 978-0687407736. That version is out of print, but Abebooks, Amazon Marketplace, or another good used bookstore is likely to carry it.

Was hoping this was the old version... ...
Was hoping this was the old version...the old version with the all white pages. For some reason they changed the color of the background page to blue, and it makes it hard to read. 👎

One of my childhood favorites
As a child I would check this out from the library over and over. Now I read it to my candy loving 4-year old, and she loves it. Has it memorized already - yesterday she says 'what does indignant mean'? ( :

Wonderful reproduction.
Bought this book for my wife. She had this book as a child and it was one of her favorites. They did such a wonderful job with the reproduction adding the color. The original book (which she also owns) is in black and white so she was thrilled to get this colored version. Wonderful story and it would make any child a great gift!

Damaged
This book arrived damaged. One corner was dented and crushed. The story is wonderful, just disappointed that a brand new book arrived damaged 😔
