In kasmir, the unwritten history, politico strategic analyst Christopher Snedden contends that in October 1947, pro - Pakistan Muslims in southwestern J&K instigated the Kashmir dispute not Pashtun tribesmen invading from Pakistan, as India has consistently claimed. Later called Azad Kashmiris, these people, Snedden argues are legitimate stakeholders in an unresolved dispute. He provides comprehensive new information that critically examines Azad Kashmir's administration, economy, political system and its subordinate relationship with Pakistan. Azad Kashmiris considered their administration to be the only legitimate government in J&K and expected that it would rule after J&K was re-unified by a unsupervised plebiscite. This poll has never been conducted and Azad Kashmir has effectively, if not yet legally, become a (dependent) part of Pakistan. Long disenchanted with Islamabad, some Azad Kashmiris now favour independence for J&K, hoping that they may survive and prosper without recourse to either of their bigger neighbours. Snedden concludes by assessing the various proposals that have been mooted to resolve Azad Kashmir's international status and the broader Kashmir dispute. Review: Realities and facts shaped into a book. - Its a must read book that present to you the actual and unbiased realities. Review: Magnum opus on the history of Azad Kashmir. - This book unequivocally qualifies to be a magnum opus on the history of Azad Kashmir- a region which played a significant role in instigating the anti-Dogra movement yet became a victim of post-partition amnesia as it gets achingly ignored in the subsequent discourses on the Kashmir question.

Not an unbiased story.
A reader of this book may surprise why like many other books written about Kashmir did not postulated a possible suggestions to be acceptable for moreover all stakeholders as far as Kashmir problem is concerned. Mr. Snedden may be a reputed journalist but he tried to establish the Pakistani point of view that Kashmir should be made an intregal part of it in the name of physigraphic proximity. But the question is what harm will be the possible outcome if Kashmir with it present boundaries stands with India like other Indian States? There are many Islamic States. Do everywhere fulfilled all the humanitarian aspirations of all citizens ? So rather deescalation one should not promote the Islamic seperatism in the guise of aspirations ,georaphy, culture( barring pandits),history, ethnicity etc.Mr.Snedden also tried to propagate this. But he wrote the book with some research. Therefore I would like to suggest to read this book in an unbiased mindset.

First time I had answers to my open ended questions about Kashmir. I recommend the US media anchor persons who hear the stories from the Indian side and preach the listeners to read this book.

personal comment
The book is elaborate expression of AZAD Kashmir scenario. COMPARATIVELY Kashmir valley is we'll govern under catalistic situation. If we in India having so many cast creed can live independently keeping our own identity why not kashmiriat in India. India is a continent worth as an example to the world? Writers not mentioning any discussion on Kashmir valley raises lopsided attitude.
