Nice Small Feature Rich Radio
This is a nice small radio and plays a very long time on a couple AA rechargeable batteries (C.Crane website estimates about 60 hours). Able to set an alarm and wake to last radio station listened to. Small enough to sit on top of our sliding shower doors if I want to listen while getting ready for work. Buttons and tuning dial feel to be nice quality. Clear display with easy to read clock. Discovered at night I can reach over to it and touch any button on the front and the display will light up temporarily to show me the time. Nice touch. Includes a 21' reel antenna to help pull in SW and SSB. Does not include batteries. I recommend using rechargeable Duracell AA batteries as I'm having good luck with them and they seem to last a long time in the radio. I do not recommend connecting the radio to any power supply via USB cable as that introduces noise on the radio. Even the C.Crane power supply introduces a very small amount of noise unless the station is very strong. I recommend just using batteries only and have a spare pair charged and ready to swap when needed. The included headphones sound better to me than a pair of iPhone headphones I tried with it. I mostly just use the built in speaker and play the radio out loud which works well for me.

Excellent ability to receive weak stations. Outstanding 40+ hour Battery Life.
Very pleased with this radio. Found it having the ability to pull in weak AM/Shortwave stations on par if not better than my Sangean ATS 909x. Was very pleased. This is indeed a radio that makes DX'ing listening fun again. Love the small size, 40hr plus battery life and especially its uncomplicated ease of use. I don't like the flimsy vinyl case. I don't like the lightness feel of the construction. Feel the radio should weigh a bit more and have a more solid feel to it. I'm sure it's made well but would like CCrain to consider making a version of this radio with a heaver resin material and have a real leather case that could stay on it while using. Do that and you will domininate the ultra portable shortwave market, increasing your sales. Otherwise the reception is outstanding and exceeds the DX'ing ability of some of the more expensive radios. Excellent radio and glad I purchased it.

C.Crane Skywave SSB - AM/FM, Weather Alert, Shortwave / SSB and Aviation Band radio
It's nice palm-sized radio that receives AM/FM Stereo, all 7 channels of Weather Radio, Shortwave on AM, LSB and USB as well as the Aviation Band. I use it as an Alarm Clock on my night stand and listen to weather and airplane traffic. The radio can pick up distant AM and FM stations. I also use it to listen to HF ham bands. It comes with a Shortwave Reel antenna that clips on to the telescoping whip antenna, earbuds and a soft carry case. It has lots of memories to save received stations. It runs on two AA alkaline batteries. I would definitely recommend ordering the optional charger so you can charge NiMH AA batteries. I'm very happy with it and will definitely take it with me when I travel. I bought a separate Eton hand-crank USB charger/flashlight for it. I can leave the radio on my bedside and take the flashlight with me to gather wood or visit the latrine, etc. I'm really happy that I did not buy a do everything combination radio/charger/flashlight.

A keeper
I really like this radio. It is packed with features and is easy to use for its small size. Great AM/FM, NOAA and Air reception, SW is another story. I had to return this radio because of its poor SW performance. Using the supplied wire antenna fully deployed I could no receive intelligible time signals regardless of time of day. I tried to get SW indoors and outdoors but could not. I decided to drive to this highest point in my area to see if that would improve reception. It did, but just a little bit. I am so disappointed because I thought I found a keeper. If CCrane offered this radio without SW and reduced the price I think this would be an excellent radio. This is an update to my original review: I returned the original radio because of the poor SW performance but decided to try another in case the radio was defective, it was. The second radio has SW performance that equals the Tecsun 880 and the Eaton Elite Executive in side by side comparison with the same reel antenna attached. The Skywave SSB has NOAA but small radio sound. The Tecsun and Eaton both have better sound. I prefer the Skywave as I use this radio mainly for travel. Due to its size it is the perfect companion. Sound quality is equal with ear buds or headphones.

good selectivity and sensitivity in a small package.
Terrific radio. I bought this to travel as my other shortwave radio, while portable, holds a lot of sentimental value and I'd be upset if TSA decided they took a liking to it or if I lost/damaged it. This radio packs so much into such a small space. I was surprised at its size when it got here. I was afraid it wouldn't work too well but it's been wonderful. I like the ATS option when I visit new cities and the clip on antenna is just great. I like it better than the plug style antennas that come with other radios as it allows some versatility. I've been able to pick up various countries around the globe with this and the aircraft band is a nice addition. I also like being able to pick up the weather wherever I am with a touch of a button. The only downside to this setup is the little case that comes with it. You might as well wrap the radio in a dish towel. It's nice to have a cover at least. I'm not upset enough about that to take any stars away from the review. It's also worth noting that there is a slight "chuffing" noise when tuning, much like the older Sangean ATS-909 radios (not the ATS-909X that resolves this). Tuning isn't "smooth", when you tune, it kind of clicks through frequencies. This isn't a problem for me as it helps me when I'm tuning around in the dark but some people may prefer no interruption between frequencies. Speaking of tuning, the fine tuning option and the bandwidth setting accompany the SSB feature very well. I'm elated with my purchase.

This is my 2nd CCrane receiver, because I wanted an SSB function. It has great sensitivity and selectivity, and I'm more than pleased with its performance, especially on the AM broadcast band, where I like to DX most nights when I'm away from my home-based receivers. The scanning functions on the Skywave units are ideal for small, relatively inexpensive receivers, and I can enthusiastically recommend them!

This wonderful little radio, while it has a speaker, is really meant for headphone listening. It reminds me, in many ways, of an Icom R71a that I used to have for shortwave listening in the 1980's. The package comes with a reel antenna. You will want to order their power supply as it is filtered to prevent interference - I also ordered the Hermit Shell case -> it will hold: the radio; the reel antenna; and, earphones

I’m an experienced ham radio operator and wanted an untraportable receiver capable of HF and SSB. This radio vastly exceeded my (already high) expectations. It has most of the features of high end radio gear and as such is aimed at the knowledgeable user - the adjustable IF filters are a real bonus, 6 kHz down to 500 Hz in SSB mode (cw mode?). The sensitivity on the built in antenna is really impressive… JA SSB stations a solid 59 on 20m, with an 18” telescopic rod? While this won’t replace a real high end communication receiver, for a portable RX you can fit in a shirt pocket it’s amazing. Menus and manual are well organized and logical.

Overall I am quite satisfied with this radio.Perhaps my only problem exists with the reception of certain AM stations.perhaps reception will improve during the winter months.
