Great for Outdoor Cats
I would actually give it 4.5 starts (5 with a better stain and heavier duty floor). We have two outside cats. Last winter my wife lost a lot of sleep putting hand warmers in a kitty carrier to help keep the momma cat warm. This year we have her and one of her kittens we kept. We needed a better shelter for the two kitties. So, we purchased the small extreme version together with the insulation package and related door for about $160.Pros:1. This was snap to assemble with a small pivot driver screwdriver. It took about 15 minutes.2. Insulation package fit perfectly and has removable flooring. It has a washable canvas cover and the floor is soft.3. Roomy enough for two full grown kitties to fit without straining the weight capacity of the house.3. Offset door which allows cats to cuddle away from the elements in the back section.4. Elevated floor to keep kitties dry.5. With door installed, the temperature can be maintained and they are more protected from rain/snow.Cons:1. Lightweight. May be easily damaged by a rambunctious dog.2. Wood floor is in three pieces and quite light. May be a problem for a 20 lb dog, but works great for two cats!3. One of the sides was not drilled for perfect fit, but is fine with the installed insulation package.4. Could have a better stain job. I resealed with a clear deck sealer to provide better weather protection as the stain matches my pergola and fence color perfectly. We also purchased a microwave pet bed warmer to provide an additional heat source other than the two cat’s body heat. The house, door, insulation package and bed warmer work well enough. The male (7 months old) took to it as soon as we put it outside. It took the momma (yes she is now fixed) a couple of days before she got comfortable using it. It does a good job in the rain with the door installed. We did not install the door until the cats got use to using the house. So far, the house seems to stay warm enough and dry enough for the kitties!Recommendation: Be sure to orient the door away from the direction you generally get the most rain. We get the most rain from the NE direction. Next is from the SW. So we oriented so the door faces W so the protected side of the house is on the S side and is less exposed to rain and wind.Hope this helps you kitty owners!Kaos

Easy assembly, works for cats
We bought this for the alley cats in our neighborhood as we live in the northeast and have cold wet winters. We wanted something with no scent from our house (we have two male cats inside). We loved that each piece had their parts written out, like front left, front right. Made it very easy to know where everything belonged. The 4 star for easy to assemble is due to the feet, there are no hole marks on them and we were not using a powerdrill so the screwdriver took a while to go through. Everything else was easy. It seems very sturdy, and i haven’t had long enough to test durability-so far so good. The cats do use it!

good value for price
fairly heavy duty. we have it on the front porch and its covered. Prob wouldnt hold up as long if exposed to rain. plenty big for two kittens. inside they have a bed plus food and water bowls. I like that we can lift the roof off and on to check on them and add food/water

Cute shelter for neighborhood kitties
I went ahead & bought it despite some negative reviews. I had an easy time building it with my small battery powered screwdriver. The wood is pretty and it’s roomy. It would easily fit a couple large cats or a large-ish dog. It’s well-made and a good deal for the price. I’m sure it’s possible to buy a handmade miniature ski lodge for a whole lot of money but this one is fine.

Quality Has Depreciated Since My First Precision Pet Purchase
I purchased my first Precision Log Cabin over 4 years ago from a place called doghouses.com. At that time, the quality of the house was worth the cost. That house is still in use and while starting to look a little weathered, it's held up well during rain, snow and ice. When I needed another one, of course I decided on buying another Precision product. This one however, was not equal in quality to it's predecessor. The floor boards were not only unequal in size in terms of width but unequally spaced. Large gaps were therefore left between boards. each board had not been cut equally in width and they had tried to compensate for this by spreading them out. I was pissed. Since this was right before winter I had to do something quick to seal out cold air. I wound up cutting strips of heavy duty duct tape and placing them on the underside of virtually the entire floor. The next thing, the wood used on the house itself was much more knotted in places, a few of which were actually more of a hole than a knot. Third, the finish was less well done. The surface did not appear to have been very well sanded and was actually visually rough in places nor did it look as though it had been stained or sealed with any protective coating. Everything fit together well. That was no problem. And the roof was as well made as the first one I purchased. But overall, I will be spending time on staining and sealing the wood after patching the knots and either replacing or caulking the floorboards.I was not particularly happy on seeing this type of sloppy workmanship on a product previously purchased that was in fact, well made and finished. I tarped the entire house for winter to protect the wood pending a good stain and sealant. I also purchased two of the Precision Insulation kits for this type of house. One in Small and one in Medium for the older house I have. THEY ARE VERY WELL MADE. They also fit well and they are a dense foam that kept the stray cats I care for nice and warm through winter. Those weren't cheap but at least they were worth it.I hope Precision reads reviews because I will not be purchasing another that I can't look at first. Had I made this purchase at the end of the summer, I would have sent it back to Amazon. As it was I ordered it late and had little time weather-wise to obtain another. Maybe I got a lemon this time around. Maybe the quality has slipped. I don't know. I just know this one wasn't up to par with the previous one. Something tells me it might be a lemon because the insulation kits were quite the opposite. They were in fact the quality that I had previously associated with Precision.UPDATE: 7/2016 - when I removed the roof at the end of winter the underneath side of the roof had shredded in stringy lengthwise pieces and the out side roof shingles had started to collapse inward. since I also purchased the pricey insulation kit for this, I am now looking at having to spend more repairing and/or replacing the roof. I've downgraded my review to 2 stars.
