I live in a 100+ year old house with un-functional fire places. I sat this on the grate, surrounded it with lava rocks (to look like coal). And it looks great. I wish that I had gotten the 12" just for a wider flame, otherwise it created the ambiance that I was looking for. A perfect alternativeto an otherwise expensive fix.
