best backpacking cookbook
I’ve used the 1st edition as my go-to source of backing meals for almost 10 years and the new edition adds more choices. So much tastier, less expensive, and healthier than the processed stuff in commercial freezed dried meals. Why not eat well on the trail, with the same light weight and easy prep/cleanup as freeze dried? Great recipes, great book.

Practical, excellent recipes. Dehydration is the best way to go for food when backpacking! Note, as stated, these recipes feed 4 hungry adults, no need to add extra.

Kayaker approved
I’ve purchased two of these books now. Amazing recipes and it shows the weight. I used it to prep for kayaking self support trips.

Great recipes but no info regarding safe storage times
The recipes definitely deserve 5 stars but I believe the author was remiss in not telling the reader how long these meals could be kept safely after dehydrating so I believe the 3 stars was generous all things considered. I hope no one stores the egg recipes and tries to consume in 5 years.

I've been struggling to find a way to make my own dehydrated meals, I just got Linda's book in the mail today and reading through the recipes I can't wait to give them a try. Everything from snacks to whole meals are included in the book. I'm giving it five stars based on the recipes inside alone. I will update my review after I make some of the meals. So excited!

like dried organic juices
This book is all about dehydrating entire ready to eat foods, opposed to the other method of preparing and dehydrating all components of the meal individually. As a professional chef myself, I prefer a mix of both methods and making use of commercial pre-dehydrated components, like dried organic juices, stocks and so on. The reason for this is that at home, outside of a lab or professional environment, we don't have access to proper dehydration equipment, like freeze-drying machines as opposed to heat drying home appliances which severely modifies and degrades both flavours and nutritional properties of the foods. Also, the book has several recipes and complete menus but lacks to provide the nutritional facts of them, which are of utmost importance when planning meals for strenuous applications like hiking and trekking. Lastly, the book being based on the "entire means ready to eat dehydration" misses several food preparation techniques that would render the meals more nutritious and more durable.

Interessante, ma...
Contenuto molto interessante.

So far I love this book
So far I love this book. Received it earlier than expected and started using it right away. Great that it also tells you how to use your oven and not just a dehydrator!!
