Stainless Steel Black S-Biner by Nite Ize

These are very nice and handy little carabiner clips. I initially purchased a set of two Size #1 S-Biners as part of several different items I wanted to try out along with several other products in my search for the most suitable combination of rings and clips to organize my keys. My original thought was to use them to either attach keys or key rings as well as other EDC (Every Day Carry) essentials, but I wasn't careful enough in ordering this and didn't realize the small size until I received them. What I've since learned is that Nite Ize produces these S-Biners in various sizes and materials and finishes. I ended up purchasing several different sizes, and each is suitable for certain purposes. They're all well made, and I think these are a good value. I also like the locking models that are also available (see the models at the bottom of the listing below). After going through a mini research project of my own in order to both determine the relevant dimensions of the various sizes, as well as find the best listings for them on Amazon, here is a guide to simplify this process for others. IMPORTANT NOTES: - I've done my best in determining representative listings here on Amazon for each of these models, but please keep in mind that these are sold by a variety of sellers here, there are multiple listings for the various different sizes and finishes, and the listings are not always well described such that you can be sure that you'll receive the correct size listed. - The prices also vary widely and from my own observations of the various listings here on Amazon, the best prices are for the Amazon 'Add-on Item' listings. It is sometimes necessary to take care in going through the choices available on some of the product pages in order to find those listings and prices. This is a better value if you want to get these particular size S-Biner's. There are also a couple of variants to the S-Biner product that incorporate locking features to better secure the two gates and prevent them from accidentally being opened: Nite Ize S-Biner SlideLock (size #2 or size #4) (Part number begins with LSB2 or LSB4 for size 2 or size 4) Nite Ize S-Biner MicroLock (size is between the regular S-Biner size #.5 and #1) (Part number begins with LSBM) Nite Ize also offers the same style product but manufactured in plastic, in sizes 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10, in various colors. For example, here is the Nite Ize SBP4-03-01BG black #4 size plastic S-Biner . I can't include listings to more of the plastic models here because Amazon limits the number of links to 10 in any review. The size and weight ratings for the plastic models are comparable to the metal S-Biner's. Nite Ize has a very broad product line of hardware products, and it's helpful to go to their own website in order to get the best descriptions of their products as well as representative MSRP pricing, before making final purchasing decisions here on Amazon.

Once in awhile you run into a small item that may seem unworthy of reviewing, but it's so handy that you come back for more. The Nite Ize Size-1 S-Biner is such a product. First discovered these in a camera store in New Jersey one weekend after paying for my purchases, and they looked interesting enough to make me go back for a second look. I'm glad that I did, as they were my first ones. Since then I've purchased a number of them for various purposes, including here on Amazon.com, as I'll explain. First some general observations on this interesting product. Had seen a small write-up in Backpacker Magazine in a doctor's office a couple of years ago where they gave it an Editor's Choice Award, and said: "Don't ask yourself if you need this useful little widget. The question is: How many?" I thought that is was an interesting comment and made a mental note to look for them... then promptly forgot about them until they were encountered in that camera store. Since then I've bought a number of them, and have used these gadgets for attaching items to a rack on the back of my mountain bike, as a replacement for the junky carabiner on water bottle lids, as a handy belt-loop clip for temporary devices, and to attach a tripod to my photo backpack for quick release. The uses for these are only limited to your imagination. The S-Biner is a small, handy thing that is a sort of double-ended carabiner, constructed from "2Cr13 Stainless steel for the body and 202 Stainless steel for the wire gates" according to the manufacturer. The hooks are slim and handy enough to use to attach to a variety of items, as you can see from the photos here, and they're available in black, stainless or "spectrum" (multicolored) finish. It's hard to figure out what size might meet your needs. I made a mistake while ordering a couple of these, so I went to the manufacturer's site and pulled down what is available. Will try to summarize here: * Size #1 - dimensions: 1.56" x .56" weight rating: 5 lb. * Size #2 - dimensions: 2" x .88" weight rating: 10 lb. * Size #3 - dimensions: 2.63" x 1.13" weight rating: 25 lb. * Size #4 - dimensions: 3.5" x 1.5" weight rating: 75 lb. * Size #5 - dimensions: 4.38" x 1.94" weight rating: 100 lb. The manufacturer also offers a handy S-Biner Ahhh Carabiner Clip Bottle Opener (look it up), which is a double-ended gadget list like the regular S-biner gadgets except that it has a built-in bottle opener. There are a number of other innovative versions and styles, including a handy KeyRack Key Holder with S-Biners , with a stainless steel carabiner clip holding six different colored plastic S-Biners, and sized to hold 6 separate keys. They also offer some light weight but sturdy glass-filled nylon S-Biners with stainless steel wire closures, handy where you might not want to scratch more valuable equipment, such as photo gear. These can be found in the following sizes: * Size #0 , plastic - dimensions: 1.18" x .49" x .14", no weight rating. * Size #2 , plastic - dimensions: 2" x 1" x .3" weight rating: 10 lb. * Size #4 , plastic - dimensions: 3.5" x 1.5" x .3" weight rating: 25 lb. The package on each warns that none of these, plastic or stainless, should be use for climbing or where "disengagement could result in bodily injury or property damage." Enough on that, but just let common sense prevail. On a personal note, just be sure that the gate spring properly engaged with the hook and you should have no problems. I cannot fault these products. You could probably just use a garden-variety cheap aluminum carabiner as a substitute for these, but if you value your gear, these are well worth a look. Might suggest that if you're going to use them where they will result in metal-to-metal contact, the plastic versions might be a better choice. Have use both the #2 and #4 sizes with cycling and for photo use as noted above and so far they have held up admirably. After having bought a number of these both for personal use and as gifts for those who already seem to have everything, can only become one of the handiest gadgets that I've seen this year. Am calling the S-Biner a 5-star Handy Widget of the Year... and I just ordered a few more.

Great product and decent feeling material, Big L on me thinking that these were going to be about 3-4 inches long and it arrived quite a bit smaller.

I’d ordered the smallest size. They’re fine, look sturdy, and, if they fit the stupidly small opening on the key fob of my new Terrain, would be perfect. As it is, until I figure out a better system, will be stuck with one of those nail-wrecking rings. Good going, GMC!

Purchased to secure swiss army knife to belt holder via para cord. Cord ties between grommet in pouch and this clip, this clip attaches to knife. If the knife should fall out of pouch, or get dropped, it wont be lost, but I can still also remove knife from clip if need be. PROs -Simple but effective design - only 3 parts -Hooks have notches for clips to seat in..better transfer of load to body and reduced risk of clip 'poping' over end of hook when under load. -Small - 1 9/16 inch long x 9/16 inch wide x 1/16 inch thick. Spring-clips are 3/16 inch thick. -High strength alloy (a PRO and CON). CONS -Not exactly what I would call inexpensive. -The alloy is high strength - it has no give so if it is loaded excessively it will break rather than bend. That said, you will have load these quite a bit to hit the breaking point. Recomendation: Nite Ize has a reputation for making quality products. I own several of their utility pouchs and can affirm that. These S-Biners demonstrate the same smart design and good construction as the other Nite Ize products I own and although they are more expesive than comparable products, the difference is in the quality, so if you want a reliable mini biner, I have no reservations recommending this product.
