An Interpretive Lexicon of New Testament Greek: Analysis of Prepositions, Adverbs, Particles, Relative Pronouns, and Conjunctions

Invaluable!
Absolutely FABULOUS resource! I don't typically review products, but this one is incredibly valuable in NT exegesis. This book is the first resource I turn to when I am investigating "Prepositions, Adverbs, Particles, Relative Pronouns, and Conjunctions" - it gives a comprehensive yet concise range of options and gives page numbers for the other major resources (BDAG/BAGD, Wallace & Harris) for further investigation. There are a couple of reviews calling this a waste of money - to these I would reply: you don't understand the purpose of this "little book" AND your exegesis will suffer if you don't use this as intended (see above - gives range and points to further research). "If you own BDAG, then Beale & Co.'s volume is superfluous" - no, but I understand where you're coming from. For the most part the answers ARE in BDAG, but reviewing the options in Beale & Co. is extremely helpful before reading through the exhaustive BDAG or Harris or Wallace (especially Wallace because the options in Beale & Co. give page numbers for different sections in Wallace that it might not occur to you to look in).One possible downside is the abbreviation scheme, but once you get used to it, it's not a problem (I actually made a bookmark with a cheat-sheet on it so I don't have to flip back and forth).Other than BDAG and Wallace, this is the best purchase I've made for my bible study resource library. I have recommended it to everyone I know who works intimately with the Greek text. Knowing what I now know about this book, I would pay $50 for it.p.s. sorry about the rough writing, I'm writing at work with frequent distractions... thanks for listening!

Huge help for Greek students who want to do arcing!!
This little lexical supplement is a perfect help for Greek students who have heard of arcing and Biblearc.com and have not thought in those logical categories before or for those of us who are trained to think in arcing categories and would like some help in thinking through the possibilities for individual words. This Lexicon lists all of the "little words" of scripture and helps the reader to see how they function in the flow of the argument. The definitions are the same as BDAG and/or BAGD but the help for those of us thinking in logical categories packaged in this kind of a tiny reference work is really great and I don't think it has been done before! Thank you! Thank you for putting this together!

Waste of Money
There is really nothing to *hate* about this book. It was just a total waste of money. There is very little content (90 pages of large type with lots of spacing, and 25 of that is introduction) and mostly just a couple of summary facts about each entry, at least half of which I have already read in other sources. For $2 it would be an okay purchase, although I still wouldn't use it. At $15, I feel like I got ripped off.It does not have, say, interesting comments on more uncommon or difficult combinations of words, only the more common things that you learn in second semester Greek. Right after it arrived, for instance, I hit an interesting and rather difficult (for me) term at the end of 1 Thess. 2, "e ouxi kai" (or not and). The terms, like that one, that I'd like information about, are not in this book; all of the ones that are in this book I can already find in BDAG, Wallace, etc.I'm sure there is a lot of excellent scholarship here; it just isn't a useful book.

Getting a good sense of the flow of koine Greek and being ...
This is a very helpful book for the beginner or intermediate learner of biblical Greek. Getting a good sense of the flow of koine Greek and being able to read fluently requires attention to the 'small words' (particles, pronouns, and prepositions) and this is a very helpful guide to those.Sure, you could look these up in BDAG, but it would be pretty intimidating to go through the four-page article for "ἐν" (not kidding!) if you had previously learned simply the English gloss 'in'. This book provides a good next step between an introductory grammar (Duff, Mounce, etc) and more technical resources. I have recommended it to my second-semester Biblical Greek students!

Good if you take time to learn how to use it.
To be honest, I felt like I needed an interpretive lexicon for this lexicon (note: there are summary pages in the beginning that illustrate its use). Rather than reading this, I felt it a lot easier to actually go to the work it cited. Which is not a good thing.Much of this can be brushed off by the fact that using it only from time to time won't make it familiar. I ended up using it only for pageation, to know what page the work was cited on exactly.Have yet to see this as a tool that has helped my Greek, or make my research easier.

depends...
Helpful for Greek students, especially those who are learning to phrase and diagram and even more especially for those who are learning how to do arcing or bracketing. If you are using BibleArc.com then you will find this book useful. If you are learning to logically trace the arguments of given texts of Scripture then this book will help you. Those who give a poor review to this book are probably not using the above tools in their exegesis of the Greek text. This little book will be most useful for the New Testament letters. If you are going through, lets say the Letter to the Romans, then it would be nice to have this book by your side.
