I want to preface my review by saying that I am new to pastels. I started working seriously with pan pastels on 1/1/26 (before that I was just using them to enhance polymer clay sculptures) and got curious about the stick soft pastels after watching several artists and ordered this set. I enjoy working with these more than the pan pastels. I find these to be rather buttery and smooth. I broke them in half to use them as I wanted to keep the labels so I know the color (which probably won't matter in the end). They came well packaged in a very lovely box that latches. None of them that I have used have been broken. They blend well and I really love all the different hues and shades. There are 18 greens, 20 blues, and 4 purples, which were the colors I was most interested in (yes, there are yellows, oranges, reds, browns, black, and white too). My pic is using these pastels on 98 lb. Canson Mi-Tientes paper (which I don't like - yet. I'm going to try the clear gesso trick and we'll see how that goes). I don't have anything to compare these too except the Prismacolor Premier NuPastel but the NuPastels are a firm pastel and these are soft and they really serve 2 different purposes as far as I can tell. I like the NuPastels too. I guess I can compare them to the pan pastels but, again, they work differently and have different application techniques. I have some Blick (set of 48) and Terry Ludwig (4 sticks) coming, and someday my backordered Sennelier set will get here and then maybe I will remember to compare them and update this review. I have not seen any professional artists review this set or brand. But I think that $60 for 100 sticks that I like is a pretty good deal. Take my review as a total newbie as you like. Now go create something!

I shopped in read reviews extensively wanting the largest number of colors with the best quality for the best price. This absolutely met the criteria and is a wonderful product, especially with the very nice wooden box case!

These square stick pastels are on the hard side. They do lay down nice color. I break them to get smaller piece to work with.

I am a professional pastel artist and teach a beginner pastel class. I purchased these pastels a few years ago when my journey began with this medium. The pastels are not soft, but hard, but are not the hardest out there. In my opinion, these are of professional quality (some tout they are student grade). Vibrant in richness of color and a good variety of shades from light to dark. I have used these to paint and finish pictures, winning a 1st place award with one. I use these to lay down the initial block in, and most of the layering. I do finish off with softer pastels. This latest purchase of pastels will be used by my students for a good and satisfying experience.

Great Item, We Love It

Well worth the price. Good quality soft pastels in a quality box at an amazingly low price. Wide range of colors with many gradations. It would be nice if the box had a handle on the outside for carrying purposes.
