We received a copy of this book from a friend as a gift and liked it so much that we purchased extra copies that we could give as thank-you gifts to our best clients. In every case it has been well received. Anyone familiar with Charlotte knows that there are very few "historical" buildings left in the city as it seems that once anything hits about 30 yrs old they demolish it in favor of something a bit newer. The historical pictures in this book bring to life a past history that most don't even know about...like Lakewood Park? Who knew.We also purchased a copy of Detroit: Then and Now (because one of us grew up there) and found it to be very informative and chock full of high quality historic photos as well.Thunder Bay press has published 'Then and Now' books for many major cities. If you are looking for something for your coffee table, or as a gift for someone elses coffee table, this is one heck of a good choice.

My partner and I absolutely love buying these books for different cities that we visit. It is so much fun to learn the history behind the city's architecture and layout. We also really enjoy the feature of this book that you get to compare a city's historical appearance to its current appearance. This book as well as all of the others we have from this series is quality made, with sturdy paper, solid binding, and a nice matte hard cover.

Bought this book for my in laws who are NC natives and been in Charlotte for decades. Photography is beautiful and they loved it. Perfect gift!

This is my second purchase of this book as I gave away my first copy. Being a native Charlottian, I enjoy looking at the pictures of my town, then and almost now. Charlotte, like other cities is growing so fast a book can not keep up but the pictures are wonderful to look at and hopefully an updated version is in the works!

I bought this for my son who lives in Charlotte, but I couldn't resist reading it myself. Interesting and informative, it displays a picture from Charlotte's beginnings then shows how that same location looks today. The location of each picture is clearly given, along with a history of that site, and how that location has developed into the Charlotte of today. If you have any interest in Charlotte, I'm sure you would find this book interesting.

Great to see historic buildings of Charlotte

Gift for my Mom that grew up in the area. She really enjoyed it. Although, she was looking for the Methodist church and couldn't find it. Maybe she found it later......
