Yes, the mounting matters. It can only be mounted to the wall. If you mount it horizontally to the wall, the connections point to the left.

What tempreture does the water get to?

I Don't know, I ordered one from amazon and it came damaged and broken amazon still haven't contacted to tell me what they doing about it.
