Zombies, etc
Otto Penzler, who also edited the previous books "The Big Book of Ghost Stories" and "The Vampire Archives", has done another fine job, collecting zombie tales from various authors. Zombies have always been the Rodney Dangerfield of the supernatural world, and didn't begin earning respect until their cinematic debut...From the first published zombie story, Seabrooks's "Dead Men Working in Cane Fields" in 1929, to such masters of the genre as Robert Bloch, Graham Masterton, H.P. Lovecraft and Manly Wade Wellman, the reader could do much worse than this collection, certainly a worthy introduction to zombie fiction....Now, if only he had included "The Saint" zombie story by Charteris.....

My introduction to Hugh B. Cave, Karen Haber, and Peter Tremayne
"Zombies! Zombies! Zombies!" edited by Otto Penzler delivers exactly what you expect! You will read lots of living dead stories. This book gives you over 50 tales of animated corpses. I liked many of these zombie narratives. Of course, with a collection this big (blurb says "most complete collection of zombie stories ever published) there are hits and there are misses. The most valuable thing I got from this book was an introduction to the work of Hugh B. Cave. Cave is a writer I have never come across before. After reading his "Mission to Margal" in this collection, I purchased several other Cave books and have been delighted with his work. I also loved stories written by Karen Haber (Red Angels) and Peter Tremayne (Marbh Bheo) and hope to get around to reading more of these two authors as well.Look, my taste obviously runs to the "low brow", or less polite term, juvenile, (My wife's choice and I'm over 60!). However, if you enjoyed the story collections like the previously published "Best of Weird Tales" or "Big Book of Pulps" you will probably feel you got your money's worth with "Zombies! Zombies! Zombies!"

Delightful collection
This delightful collection of zombie narratives more than met my expectations. The stories are well chosen and the line drawings do a good job of conveying the pulpy background to the zombie stories.

A nice variety
This book is an excellent collection of all the various literary movements within zombie literature. The book makes basic distinctions betweeen zombie slaves, Hatian zombies, zombie apocalypse, etc. I enjoyed it immensely!
