Yellow Mountain Imports Professional Chinese Mahjong Game Set, Pro Set - with 148 Medium Size Tiles and Wooden Case, Wooden Spinner, Dice, and Betting Sticks (for Chinese Style Game Play)

Arrived very well packaged, thanks to Yellow Mountain Imports. Upon opening the sturdy and elegant wooden box of the game there was a slight smell, but that's due to the paint of the engravings in the tiles which I personally find pleasant. The box itself is lined with a faux velvet lining to protect the tiles as is the individual wooden shelves that house the tiles (not cheap cardboard, thank goodness). The art on the tiles is very well done, not perfect, but the little discrepancies on the tiles are barely noticeable compared to the overall beauty and value of the product. The size of the tiles is pretty standard, it's not a large or thick size, but they are a comfortable size to play with. It does come with an instruction book, but not one I'd rely on if you are learning this game for the first time. It mainly details the bare basics of the games and examples of winning hands that may result from the winner. The other components are the dealer indicator, 3 dice, and 4 blank tiles (what I assume to be joker tiles if you fancy the American version of Mahjong), and I think betting sticks, all in fine condition and craftsmanship. Overall, I am very impressed with this product, I can tell the case will hold up for a very long time along with the tiles if treated with care. I am very pleased I went with this set.

I bought this as a gift for my dad, and he really loved it. The quality of the set is really great! The wooden case looked very stylish and had a felt finish at the back to avoid scratches with the surfaces of contact.The pieces are complete and came as described. The ivory color of the pieces were great. One thing I noted though is the dice didn’t seem as it belonged there, color’s white and not ivory. But that’s about it.Overall, I’m happy with the purchase and would recommend it!

I've owned this set for about 5 months now. It's a high quality set of tiles, and the case is very attractive. But it smells strongly of some kind of solvent that is still off-gassing.Let me repeat that. I've owned this for 5 months, and it's still off-gassing. I don't know if it's acetone in the adhesive used to fix the felt or what. But it still smells of solvent after me owning it for 5 months. I've left it lying open, with all of the pieces spread out for days at a time. The only thing I haven't done yet is leave it out in the sun (I'm worried it will fade the paint). My next step is to try to force the solvent to evaporate with a heat gun on low (in a well-ventilated space while wearing a VOC filter).It's a very nice set. I just can't figure out why, after months, it still reeks of industrial solvent.

We are just learning to play mahjong. This set seems to contain all the elements needed, especially at our level of play. The components and box are sturdy. There are some things provided that we don't use, because we aren't sure how, like betting sticks, but they will be available when we gain enough experience to use them. One of the biggest things to get used to is that turns go counter clockwise versus clockwise. Not much more to say than before you judge the game, try it. There's strategy and luck required, like most other board or card games. A round goes fast, usually within 10-15 minutes, so you have control over the time you want to commit to playing. It isn't a game just for senior citizens.

I really wanted to like this product. When it arrived, the packaging it came in was nice, the wooden box is nice and sturdy. I really like the tiles and the carving and the wooden "wind compass" thingy. Unfortunately I can only give it 3-stars because the set seems to be used :( I was disappointed when I removed the plastic films from the tiles that I noticed there are scoff marks on all the tiles. They appear to wear/tear from normal use. I am not sure why they sent me a used set....

This set is built well. The case is pretty solid, and it is all lined with nice material (felt or something). The racks and center box fit in the case nicely. The pieces are standard size and have a good weight to them. All of the pieces were there, nothing was missing. It's a really nice set for the money, I was quite surprised. The instructions are pretty good,enough to figure out and start playing. Have referenced the web here or there for some clarification. If I had to say something bad, it would be the smell of the plastic/resin pieces, but it eventually goes away.

This is a beautiful set with a sturdy box for traveling and storage. Though it cost a little more than some other sets, it’s well worth the money. I like that the tiles are a little bigger and easy to read and the characters and illustrations are bright & beautiful!

This is a very nice mah-jongg set. The tiles are standard size and easy to handle. After playing all the pieces fit back into the case along with the accessories that comewith it.I play weekly using this set and it's been well received by the other players.Note: this set does not come with any racks for holding the tiles during play. I purchased those separately from Amazon.I'd recommend this mah-jongg set.
