Classic iconic knife.
Opinel 125 years plus and still going ...This is my first.Lately I like to have a whittle in the park ...I'm a beginner and rather than splurging for a kit on a phase that may pass me by tomorrow, this is a cheap introduction to have fun and maybe find a new hobby.(I should have gone for a Carbon as they retain their edge better - but no matter I just bought a strop as well.)It's super thin and it's a utility knife. For those here saying it's a letter opener or an apple peeler, well yess it can be ...There are reviews here that say OH! it's SO dinky and yes, it sure is ...but if you order a dinky knife one should not expect an Elephant gun. That could be seen as a strength in our current climate here in the UK - i can get it out do my thing pop it in my pocket, without raising any concerns and just be on my way.( Pic: Opinel, Victorinox 58 mm ALOX Classic and a Regular sized Clipper.)Finally ...Picasso had a No 5 (Carbon) for carving.I'm really impressed with my Opinel. Thanks peeps!

French knife excellent for UK use
This is a real classic knife and because of the removal of the locking mechanism makes it a great option for use in the UK. If your new to pocket knives you can't go wrong picking one of these up, if you're not be you'll already know how good these are especially for the price. The blade stock is thin which combines with the blade shape makes it a brilliant slicer. The steel is good for the price, this alox stainless version won't hold an edge as well as the carbon version (I own both versions) but this is a compromise as the blade won't stain/patina like a carbon knife.I would recommend this to anyone that needs a decent pocket knife

Opinel are great but….
Why did I buy this? It’s pretty much unusable being so small, but that’s my fault for buying it not the company. Next time, I’ll get a slightly bigger one for my emergency kit. Very expensive for the size.

Pocket knife
This was smaller than expected although my fault as I did not check the measurements. It does not stay open, other than that a lovely little knife

Elegant and useful
I’m on my 3rd or 4th of these tiny penknives. Occasionally I’ll get over enthusiastic and try to cut something too hard and snap the blade. It’s a small knife so I should know better. While waiting for the replacement to come I realise quite how often I have use for a tiny penknife. Opening packages, peeling fruit, all sorts. These are beautiful little knives, well made and reliable if you bear in mind how thin the blade is.

Not a necessary knife, but nice to have
It’s really cute and useful for opening packages, mail and for cutting vegetables.I didn’t expect it to be this small (didn’t pay enough attention to the details) but it’s really nice and cute. It’s really sharp and easy to clean.

Prefer the original safer design
Not as good as my old original which had a rotating safety ferrule

No5 is tiny
Very small knife, sharp and well made as you would expect from Opinel but very small.
