I find it hard to read technical books from cover to cover. This book's chapters are bite sized pieces with about the right level of detail for me. I read most of the book in a couple of days and then went back to do the labs, which have taken me 4 days so far, but I am not quite done. I find the hands-on labs terrific. They help cement the information learned in the chapters. They are non-trivial and well worth doing. We use SharePoint on-premises with these tools and this book is definitely applicable. Good for Power Users that will be creating the models and the reports for our end-users. Review: Not a how-to book. - This is not a BI beginner's book. Books shows you the power of BI with several screen shots as to what the end product would look like without taking you through the actual steps to get there - this is especially so for PowerMap there are other more useful books for the beginner.

Great resource tool
Great beginner book for someone who is getting involved into Excel Power BI. Good as a reference tool. I really enjoy using this in conjunction with tutorials on YouTube.

Great text book
Halfway through. Really well done; labs start off easy and progressively build and become more challenging.

Good but examples need more clarification
I do agree with most positive reviews that the book is comprehensive and well written. The only thing that is bothering me so far are the examples given - the examples are good but there is no reference that the examples can be downloaded from Apress' website. Starting with chapter 2, the examples given do not match the downloaded material. I have emailed Apress' but no reaction so far - Mr Clark did respond that he would come back to me.

Bad book, bad examples, not even close to the way Excel 2013 works
Horrible book. Examples don't even come close to matching what is in Excel 2013 and it's impossible to follow along because of this. Would not recommend this book at all - instead, look at alternative options such as Power BI on Microsoft Virtual Academy.
