Spiritual Relativism
All in all, this is a fascinating book that makes a number of very compelling points. So why only two stars, you ask? Because ultimately vast quantities of this book could have been summarized in just a handful of chapters, in a no larger format than a booklet. Ultimately, the author is pioneering the idea of spiritual relativism. Spiritually integrated psychotherapy, when summarized, is simply an extension of moral and cultural relativism with spiritual language and mindsets attached. It remains very subtly within a secular humanist worldview, and certainly finds its foundation there. I believe it calls on therapists to compromise their own belief system, in an effort to engage with clients spiritually. Even if it is not something they value themselves. Is it a well written book? Yes. Is it filled with compelling information? Yes. But is it ultimately helpful? No. I don’t believe it actually provides any genuine help, that would provide care for the soul.

Very helpful book
A fabulous book. Well written, language not complicated, although some of the concepts are. Many apt illustrations from author's practice. Author extremely well-read, and intimately familiar with major religions of the world (he practices Jewish faith). Presents abundant results of research, and does not make unfounded claims, indeed is humble in drawing conclusions and making observations. Persons interested in spiritual direction would find here a lens through which the whole arena is expanded.

a new dimension is awakened for clinicians to better understand human nature and connect with client core values
Here is one of very few publications for the helping professions, that complements practice without majoring in theory. Fear is gently allayed for the religious, a new dimension is awakened for clinicians to better understand human nature and connect with client core values. A stirring reminder of one's first desire to be of help to those we would help.

Research based exploration of how spirituality has an unavoidable place in counseling
Highest rating for Pargament once again. He brings to religion/spirituality a level head for both research and the profound effects of faith on an individual's pyschology. Easy to read and clearly written any pastor, psychologist or layperson will benefit.

great for pastoral counselors
I would like this book in hard-copy after reading it electronically. It is a thorough, but objective view, of how spirituality can affect individuals both positively and negatively.

Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy
Pargament strikes a chord between the disciplines of psychology and caring ministry. His insight and research are second only in his ability to express his insights articulately and with great sensitivity to psychological/spiritual dynamics. I have found this book to be milestone in my work as a hospice chaplain, and I highly recommend it to anyone who seeks to deepen her or his insight into the work of caring ministry.

Was part of a curriculum
If this is your jam, go for it. Otherwise, as a textbook (as it was in my case) it wasn't bad.
