Do the puzzle pieces lose go out of place ?

It's a great board. The puzzle pieces stay in place. No sliding around. It's like a felt material. Good for up to a 2000 peoce puzzle.

Is this stiff enough to use on your lap?

Certainly. Our material has enough hardness. You can do Jigsaw activities on your lap.

Is this puzzle mat sturdy enough when moving them?

Yes! Does not bend when moving,excellent quality.

I have a 20×20, 250 larger piece puzzle to do with young kids. Board needs to accommodate whole puzzle. Will edges prevent this?

This board is 29 by 20. I think it would work for you. The puzzle would be up against the edge on two sides but I measured and I think they would fit. I love this board. Wish one was available in a larger size.
