Grappa: A Guide to the Best

Colorful introduction to grappa that's light on comparisons
This overview of grappa is nicely packaged -- many color photos of bottles, distilleries, and vineyards; quality paper and binding; built-in ribbon bookmark, etc. The bulk of this book consists of two- or three-page write-ups of distilleries or vintners and a few of their more interesting grappas.Given the competition, or relative lack thereof, this is a book with few peers. However, there's also room for improvement. As of summer '04, he information in this book is just starting to show its age. There's a great variety of vintners and distillers, but it's also incomplete on many of their individual offerings. And while there are good descriptions of grappas with plenty of adjectives, the authors do little to take a stand and guide the reader to one specific grappa or another. This is critical for someone overwhelmed with so many choices. This book would excel if only the authors tried to rate different grappas -- or even just compare a few or point out a few distinguishing selections. But at least for now, it's one of the best references out there.

Great seller!
The book arrived much quicker than Amazon estimated. I purchased it as a Christmas present for my stepfather so it was great to see it arrive in such a timely manner. The book was just as described and he loved it.
