Wabi Sabi: The Art of Everyday Life

Wonderful and inspirational book
Years ago, my chiropractor kept this book in her treatment room for patients to flip through. When I started seeing her, I would go straight for the book, open to a random page and read one quote to her as sort of a daily inspiration. Somehow, it was always exactly what we needed to hear. Since then, I have given this book as a gift to every special person in my life. For such a simple book, it helps tackle some of life's more difficult philosophical dilemmas with simplicity and grace. Every artist and musician needs this book in their life. Every person on a path to inner peace and balance needs this book in their life. Every person who gets caught up on little things needs this book in their life. Literally, EVERYONE needs this book in their life. Get it for yourself. Get it for a friend. Get it for someone you love. Just get it!

A Real Little Gem
I purchased this book in spite of some of the negative and rather harsh reviews. I am so glad that I did. While tiny in size it is very thick and full of little gems of wisdom that "inspire us discover the humble beauty in our daily lives." A concept we seem to have lost in the American culture and way of life. Yes, some of the quotes are by western individuals, but they are relevant to the concept of wabi sabi. I think she sums up her reason for using quotes from other cultures in the introduction to the book. :"The deeply human feelings about art and life that inform wabi sabi are universal as the passages and quotes in this book from various cultures and times suggest." I wish that people who feel the need to write a negative review would refrain from being so harsh and sometimes downright nasty. What purpose does that serve? If you don't like a book, just state why you didn't like it and let it go at that.

Perfectly Imperfect--Wabi Sabi
Have given this to many friends. Wabi Sabi translated simply means, "perfectly imperfect".The saying is much more impactly even if you think about at those times in your day/life when things don't go "right". But, this book if filled with profound quotes from historically known people to present to thd reader a healthy perspective of accepting and living and loving imperfect lives...including one's own.

this book changed my life
reading this simple book inspired me to see the world in a different way, the wabi sabi way. instead of trying to explain the concept to those i care about, i give them copy to read and keep. then i need to buy a new book for myself. i'm on my 8th copy!

Nice pocket read.
I should have read the details more closely. I didn't realize it was so small. But it is handy for tucking in my bag for work this way so it worked out fine. The content is mostly quotes that speak the the philosophy, again, which was not what I was expecting, but it's easy to pick up and put down at work.

Wabi Sabi
I enjoyed this info and i use it to meditate. It relaxes me so muchthat it makes me want to sit and watch the rain and sip a cool colada! I have a stressful job and I need some time to unwind. This book is alsolovely to look at (calm, peaceful photos). The words make me stop and think.I wanted to find something that would calm my senses; to be able to giveit to my daughter, bringing her some peace in her stressful life.

Wabi Sabi Every Day
A good book for understanding the use of wabi sabi in every day life. Interesting that the Wabi Sabi books are plain, little dull books compared to the Feng Shui books which are almost works of art themselves. Makes a nice contrast.

Delightful!
This is a small book. It's a collection of quotes and very short stories. So rather than telling us what wabi sabi is, the author shows it to us organically, which I think is a very Wabi Sabi way to teach about wabi sabi. :) I'm enjoying it very much.

Dip-in bedside book - handy bite size
A dip-in sort of book); it got you interested but didn't explore the subject in any detail and I felt let down by the photo content - too monochrome - they didn't say anything - one picture ......1000 words - if you follow.Did I expect too much? A handy size bedside book, took me there, but I needed more. Think of it as opening the door on another way of living

OK but not very scholarly
Wabi Sabi difficult to define and therefore it relies on numerous quotations from western culture which have a general feel of 'wabi sabi about' them. OK but far too general. A bit of fun, I guess.

Small but fat and full!
This is indeed a 'little' book - barely 4" square, but fat and full of wisdom from through the ages, very like 'The little Book of Zen'. I am enjoying the varied writings and the way they are presented but I think they deserve a better publishing format. This is well worth buying and keeping by the desk, or the bed...

It is really great to help in the process of thinking things through
Bought this for my wife as we are in the process of downsizing and de-cluttering flowing a re-evaluation of our lives. It is really great to help in the process of thinking things through, identifying the important from the immediate and to help with clarity in every day life..
