Compact Powerhouse: GL-AR750S Exceeds Expectations!
I've been thrilled with my GL.iNet GL-AR750S! I have had it for over a year and love the VPN capability. This compact router is a powerhouse, offering excellent performance and reliability. The dual-band Wi-Fi ensures a strong and stable connection, while the VPN compatibility provides an extra layer of security. Setting it up was a breeze, thanks to the user-friendly interface, and its portability is a major plus. With multiple features packed into such a small device, the GL-AR750S has exceeded my expectations, making it an outstanding choice for anyone in need of a reliable and versatile travel router.

Nice single board router/PC with Qualcomm chips and OpenWRT.
WPA2-AES is working properly according to a current iphone firmware load which has detected WPA problems on other access points in the past successfully. The new Tor client functionality (still in beta) works, but is slow to startup. Once working it delivers ~7MB/sec up and down through the Tor network - which is reasonable. Did not detect any out of band leaks in their Tor implementation. Tested Tor access through an iphone which was kinda neat. There is no formal Tor browser for the iphone. GL-inet provides all the controls for OpenWRT...but places them behind a selection menu. I found their own GUI to be much easier to use than WRT's. So you really don't need that expansive WRT configuration menu unless you need something special. The box itself is just a Qualcomm chip on a PCB - which is the way I like to buy our routers. Will be ordering another soon, and might buy a bunch for Christmas since this box includes DNS over TLS. Good way for family to update their network by inserting this box ahead of whatever they have. Saves money and grief. No one should be using the old DNS system - it's a security risk. This is a simple upgrade for anyone with old hardware. Besides, ALL of the IEEE standards for wifi have been compromised/hacked. Even Wifi6E has been a disappointment. So everyone should really isolate their wifi traffic to OUTSIDE their primary network (which should be wired). Wifi - you just can't trust it. Every phone or laptop you own using wifi should also be on a VPN. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kateoflahertyuk/2019/04/11/flaws-in-wpa3-wi-fi-standard-allow-attackers-to-crack-passwords-and-view-traffic/?sh=3249d14a7050 The Qualcomm ® XSPAN TM QCA9563 is a highly integrated and feature-rich IEEE 802.11n 3x3 2.4 GHz System-on-a-Chip (SoC) for advanced WLAN platforms. It includes a MIPS 74Kc processor, an SGMII interface and an external memory interface for serial Flash, DDR1 or DDR2, UART, PCIe, two USB 2.0 Host controllers with built-in MAC/PHY and GPIOs that can be used for LED controls or other general purpose interface configurations. The QCA9563 supports 802.11n operations up to 216 Mbps for 20 MHz and 450 Mbps for 40 MHz, and 802.11b/g data rates. Additional features include Maximal Likelihood (ML) decoding, Low-Density Parity Check (encoding) and Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC). Pretty certain this MIPs processor is free of the Spectre flaw. Virtually EVERY processor made over the last 30 years contains this flaw. May mean you will be forced to throw out ALL your computer hardware someday. Nice touch that this little box can stay? Maybe the kind of CPU you want protecting your network 24/7?

Favorite travel router so far
This has been my favorite travel rider so far it's a nice size and shape they didn't even release an update to the firmware however they did disable some features namely the SD card I have to figure out how to reenable that. Is things been solid I like the size and shape better than the newer ones so I'm really hoping they do a refresh of the style at some point. Not necessarily using all of the features as I'm using it as a basic router access point. I am able to connected to my Wi-Fi hotspot device wirelessly or to weird ethernet, but the biggest thing is that it has to LAN ports which is great as one can go to the laptop and 1 # can go to the mixer. Yes I have gotten some incredible range over 300 feet line of sight I could barely see the band. I am primarily using it to control a Behringer X air (XR12, XR16, XR18) when I'm not using it as a mini router elsewhere. It's been solid and reliable. I hot glued some magnets on the back which lets me stick it up to the side of a speaker or the frame of a pop-up tent to get it above the crowd. The ability to have multiple wireless connection stored means I can save the settings for my Wi-Fi hotspot and put it where it's got good signal or I can connect it to the venues Wi-Fi without having to re-enter the password every time I switch back-and-forth and allowing my multitude of devices to connected and all I have to do is approve the captive portal on one.

Sometimes its great, other times, not so much.
I got this recently to replace an old travel router that had given up the ghost. For the most part this has been a really good device. The configuration website works pretty well. I found it to be pretty intuitive and easy to work with. Connectivity has been touch and go. When visiting hotels it has behaved pretty well. I was able to connect to their wifi and using the hotel's web sign-in portal always worked well. Recently, I took the family camping and the campsite had its own wifi for visitors. I was able to connect to the site's wifi without a problem but this router would lose internet connectivity every 15 minutes or so. If my wife or I connected directly to the sites wifi the signal was strong. It could have been a placement issue for the router. I will need to do some more experimentation next time we go.

I have a DD-WRT and OpenWRT router but it is so frustrating to configure OpenVPN or wireguard on them. To make matter worse, I learned that it is virtually impossible to configure wireguard VPN when you set the OpenWRT router in AP mode. My objective is to have a second WIFI in the house for VPN access and AP mode is the best solution. Even after following all the guides online, I just could not figure out how to forward or masquerade the traffic between my WAN and VPN. This should be due to my lack of network knowledge. I could get OpenVPN to work but the speeds were miserable, barely 10Mbps. I came across GL INET routers from my VPN provider website and decided to take the plunge. It is unbelievable after spending so many frustrating days and nights to configure my routers that I was able to setup my VPN on the GL INET router within 10 minutes after reading a simple guide. The best of all is the speed that I am getting. As advertised, I was able to get between 30 to 50 Mbps on wireguard. Fantastic! If you are a VPN or network novice, look no further for a simple and easy router to configure your VPN.

This little device is perfect if you work in a hotel or if you travel often. This amazing micro router will allow you to log in to the hotel sign in page and all your devices will be available in the network. I use it because I can easily connect my chrome cast or AppleTV to the router and having all my devices capable of streaming to the tv. Also, if you are a “geek” you have all the power of OPENWRT an operating system for routers that can do millions of things. The price is ridiculous for what this device does. Also most of the time you will find the usb plug on the wall so you don’t even need the adapter to run it. If you need any information about this router please let me know. Bye

Been trying with various reputable brand WiFi repeaters to create a private WLAN network within our caravan and use the data plan we have on our mobile phone (iPhone 6) while on travels, by tethering via WiFi (or USB cable) to the phone. The D-Link EX3700 would not work with an iPhone hotspot. Then I bought the TP-Link travel router WR-902AC but again no luck. Some products either “didn’t see” the iPhone at all, or they couldn’t connect to it, or they went into endless configuration loops. Even Apple’s own Airport Express and AirPort Extreme would at best only work as a wireless access client to the iPhone’s WiFi signal, needing a second device to then create the wanted private wireless network. To top it off, the Apples were very temperamental - out of 10 power cycles they would connect perhaps only 2-4 times, for the rest it was back to rebooting and reconfiguring. But all of these products worked fine on my regular home WiFi network, so no operator error on my behalf. My German made FritzBox WLAN repeater 1750e would have worked as I needed, but they are too expensive and too difficult to obtain in Australia (I keep using it inside the home as mesh repeater). As a last resort I purchased the GL-iNet travel router, which really was a pleasant surprise in all aspects. Neat hardware design, very functional administrator software, super easy to set up. I had both, wireless and also USB tethering with my iPhone setup within a few minutes. The transmitter signal is plenty inside our home, so I will be able to throttle the output down quite a bit within the caravan. Speed-wise I couldn’t see real bottlenecks, and best of all, when USB tethering, the USB cable actually charges the phone at the same time! The supplied 5V/2A power supply is super mini and works well, no elevated temperatures inside the repeater or the power supply. The “Advanded Admin” mode is staggering - too much detail for me but everything is there for the real hardcore networking guru. All in all this product gets a big thumbs up from me 👍
