Simple, cheap, effective
This is one of the simplest, cheapest, and most effective locks for sliding exterior doors, sliding interior closet doors (such as for baby proofing) and many types of sliding windows. For external security it prevents the door (or window) from being pryed open, as well as from being lifted out. It is very easy to install, all you need is a drill.I actually couldn't find this lock at our local home depot, which is why I bought it on Amazon.I just wish it came in brass.

Works but not suited for outdoors.
I got this to slide through the holes on my gate latch to keep it latched and it works. But being outside for a year and it's completely rusted. I'll probably need to look for a stainless solution.

Works great
It worked exactly as described. It now keeps my sliding patio door from opening. I no longer need to put a stick in the track to keep it from moving.I also suggest the following to protect your door:Most doors can be lifted up, and then the bottoms are pulled towards you to facilitate their removal. this provides yet another means of entry breach. To keep the door from being lifted up and out of its track, or being rocked in its track, open the door and add some pan head screws into the top track the door rides in (2 or 3 should be sufficient). Adjust the screws so that they just barely let the door slide without interference. The screws will act as a limit adjustment to limit the height to which the door can be raisedWhen you need to remove the door, first remove the screws. The door can then be removed as previous.

but inexpensive and easy to install
Effective security hardware. Not the most attractive solution, but inexpensive and easy to install. I'd recommend installing in an upper or lower corner to AVOID THE GLASS in the door, corners should also help avoid any steel or other items inside the frame.

Best lock!
My lock on my door broke into replace my door was very expensive, or to replace the lock was expensive also. I found this little lock for such an inexpensive price has been a lifesaver! I had had a stick on the door to keep the door from being able to be open, but The children could move the stick and had easy access to the outdoors, not to mention the pool! I had to do something about it, my husband installed this in less than 15 minutes and since then, I have such a piece of mind and feel so safe inside my home.I recieved this product at a discount rate in exchange for a honest review

Worthless chain
This is by no mean should be used as a security lock of any kind. The chain is as weak as a necklace. You can can pull it apart by hand with no effort as I did. I threw mine away as it is unfit for use. Good idea, but inferior materials.

How to install this pin lock you will need to be careful and patient....
I installed the pin in upper right hand corner of my sliding glass door frame. I used 3/16" extra long drill bit to drill the hole for pin through the frame, door metal and exterior portion of frame. I used a center punch to locate the hole first before drilling and also drilled through the door after locking it using the standard handle lock. The pin fit through all holes with little play. The pin retainer plate was secured with 2 screws as follows. I located the retainer plate first with the pin passed through it, the frame & door. Then I drilled a small hole (must be smaller than screw) and used my drill to create threads by driving the screw into hole. An extra screw was included in package if you happen to damage its head. I did likewise for the second screw. After fitting each screw I had to cut both screws shorter to allow the door to slide closed without hitting them. I cut them in half, approximately, then filed the very short remaining portion flat. Finally I secured the pin to door frame. I also cut a thin slot into the knurled pin cap inline with its locking ridge to help indicate where the ridge is when the pin is secured for easier removal. The door seemed very secure when pinned with no play at all.
