If you don’t mind doctoring them up a little, they are great awls!
Straight out of the package these awls are a disappointment, but a couple minutes to sand off the crappy chrome plating that was flaking off and sticking to the plastic sleeve each awl is in and you have a hem in the rough!I scraped and sanded the horrid chrome plating off all the awls and then using finer sand paper, a sharpening stone, and a strop, I turned these awls into perfect tools for leather working. For the price and a little elbow grease (which I have more of than money) you can have a great little tool for saddle stitching. The steel quality is pretty good after stripping of the chrome, I have not yet had to re-sharpen any of then.

just ok
Not the sharpest points, not strong metal. Bends and breaks easily if you try to pry something out, such as the gasket out of a faucet head. So not very useful for prying. Good only for punching holes and poking at things.

WUTA brand awl best tool for your money
Just a quick note first: I've used this product before, which is what prompted me to make a purchase for a package of 5. I feel that these are better made than the previous ones that I've used. I expect these will work well and last a long time; provided they are not abused.

Nicely Made
The quality of the awls is great, but the protective covers have lifted the finish on the handles

Good overall
First, these are very sharp as they come and are well shaped / well finished. They can punch through 3 layers of 10oz leather which is pretty amazing.I would have given them 5 stars, but the metal seems to fatigue over time and eventually break. It wasn't a big deal to me since I thought I could re-sharpen them. I don't know if it is just the tips that are hardened or maybe some type of surface hardening. They weren't worth a poop after sharpening and I did keep them cool on the grindstone. As throw away items they are just fine. But I do feel a bit of guilt tossing what could have been a perfectly good tool with better heat treat.
