Generic cherry tomatoes that are poor value even at a third the price of the real deal
I adore tomatoes (and tomato juices . . . and have even been known to create the occasional bloody Mary) and cherry tomatoes are a way of experiencing the genre at its finest. However, not all cherry tomatoes are the same and these were bland as well as being less than firm and crisp. These are described on the Amazon Fresh listing as Class A, but note the statement, 'Country of origin may vary between Belgium, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Netherlands, Portugal (incl Azores & Madeira), Spain (incl Canary & Balearic Islands) and the United Kingdom.' In other words, you get what you get and the punnet you buy next month may bear no particular relation to the one you bought last. You're also advised to keep these tomatoes refrigerated, which is another giveaway that they're not strong on taste. The best tomato suppliers will advise you that refrigeration deadens the flavour somewhat: I don't wholly go along with that, as I like that cool crisp bite and I find tomatoes do keep fresh longer in the fridge, but I also like the confidence of producers who warn against refrigerating their produce.Amazon Fresh currently have these on sale at 24p per 100g: compare and contrast with Piccolo Cherry Vine Tomatoes by The Tomato Stall The Tomato Stall Piccolo Cherry Vine Tomatoes 400g and grown on the Isle of Wight, also available on Amazon Fresh, and, which I've reviewed separately. At 67p per 100g, these juicy cherry tomatoes, sold still on the vine, are nearly three times the price (and since you're also paying for the vine stalks probably more than three times the price), but it's these Piccolos that I buy again and again.Even at a third of the price, the generic cherry tomatoes are a poor-value substitute.

Arrived with growing furry fungus at the bottom of the container
Disappointed that the tomatos looked good and firm but had fungus growing underneath
