Before we talk about the canoe, let's talk about packaging. There wasn't any. It came loose in the Amazon shipping box.The overall design idea is attractive and functional, but the finished product is 100% manufactured wrong. Consider: the entire product is a piece of wood with a central channel for olives. The central channel in mine is not centered in the boat--in fact it's angled to one side. The only critical part of its manufacturing is flawed: it has a canted channel. Also, the finish is rough. It doesn't have that "handmade by quakers" feel of an etsy product, it has more of a "mass produced in china" feel. In general, it would be a "good first try" crafts project, but as a gift it's a fail. Yes, it holds olives, but it looks asymmetric, rough, and carelessly manufactured as fast as possible.I care about symmetry and finish, because an Olive Canoe's actual functionality is unimportant. You don't buy an olive boat for its function, you buy it because it looks neat. It's hardly the best way to serve olives; don't you have a nice ceramic dish or bowl? That's a much better way to actually serve olives, and you can put it in the dishwasher. Its uselessness is its strength: an Olive Canoe makes a great gift because nobody has an olive canoe, because nobody needs one. And it's fun to say "olive canoe."And so we return to the fundamental problem. A gift should be nice. This is mediocre at best. It fails as a gift, so it fails entirely. I found it near the top of Amazon's "gift suggestions", and you probably did too. My recommendation: pay a bit more for a nice handmade one. It's a U shaped piece of wood, you should be able to find a nice one easily. Don't buy this.As an "I got you an Olive Canoe because you don't have a wish list and refuse to tell me what you want" passive aggression gift, it's fine, and it technically holds olives.And it does hold olives nicely. So, two stars. It's kinda crap though. Spend a bit more and get something made by people who care.

At first I didn’t like it that much. Wood looked very dry, but I hand washed it and coated it with food grade mineral oil and the real beauty of the piece came out. Very pleased now. Should have arrived treated tho that’s why I deducted one star.

This is a well made, surprisingly large, quality little olive boat. I had no intention of using it for actual olives--rather I placed turtle green marbles in it and sat it on my bookshelf as a whimsy piece--but for anyone intending to actually serve olives to their guests, this would perfectly do the trick. But it has many nore uses too! Mount on the wall under a beautiful, stark dried flower arrangement, use it for your child's craft project to sort thru tiny pieces...the list goes on and on. It's generously carved out, so any item not taller than two inches--we're talking some mega stuffed olives here--should fit nicely. The wood isn't too dark, too liight, or splintery in any way. Looks just as represented here!

This little olive canoe is absolutely adorable. The craftsmanship is on point. Its durable, lightweight, smooth to touch and can be used for any type of party celebration. You can dress it up or down with whatever themed party you are planning. Perfect size for me since not many of my friends like olives but for those that do this is the perfect olive platter. The price was great too. Another homerun Amazon!

Works as advertised, and looks good as well. Cleans up easily and holds about a dozen large olives. I can recommend this product.
