Wrong article, labeled as the correct one
Instead of getting my Lonely Planet South India & Kerala I got a Kerala guide from Outlook traveller (worth 395RS), which is covered in plastic with a tag, saying that that is the lonely planet guide.. yes for sure...

First disappointment from the Lonely Planet line
I have used Lonely Planet for almost all my travels in Europe and America, and found it wonderful. So I was very disappointed when I discovered how awful this book was.--Its list of hotels is woefully incomplete, often missing the best options in each town--Its list of sights is similarly awful. They mark as highlights some of the most boring things you could imagine (e.g. Fort St. George in Chennai) while omitting some of the best (e.g. sandalwood factory in Bangalore). No information on guides or rates.--Its list of restaurants is acceptable, but sparse--It is horrendously inaccurate when giving background information on ancient India, especially related to Hinduism (e.g., the Pandavas were not Gods! They were mortals in a divine drama).Guess I should have expected it...the writer has no deep background in India. Will try the regular Lonely Planet India next time.

Good purchase
It has great tips and quite extensive overall. I am sure it will be very helpful for our future travel plans.

As useful as ever
Well it's a lonely planet guide. Been using them for decades. This one found us some great accommodation, invaluable travel info and guides to the stuff around us on our recent 2 months in India.

Good but not complete.
Helpful but really short. The recommended hostels and restaurant were not bad, but there were not plenty of choices.Recommend reading the extend of the city/region you're looking for in order to get a real idea of what you want to visit. What is missing is a full map of Kerala inside.

An excellent travel guide
At last, a kindle travel guide packed with a wealth of information which is logically organized and readily accessible.Information: *Detailed information on places and sights includes opening hours and admission fees as well as direct links to the websites. *A sizable listing of hotels and restaurants includes some high-end places, not just backpacker haunts *A whole section describes Indian food and includes a "menu decoder" *The shopping section describes locally crafted items as well as large market places *Arts sections note specifics of everything from Theyyam rituals to cooking courses to festivals and offer sources for further reading as well as on-line sites *Practical information sections give you health, banking, communication, transportation, etc. information and even warn you about scamsAccessibility: I have had my Kindle Fire for several years and have enjoyed the ability to highlight, bookmark pages and to expand a guidebook's map by tapping and spreading my fingers. With this guidebook, however, I used the free kindle app to put this guide on my Samsung tablet. This enabled me on any page to use the 3 bars in the top left corner to pull down a table of contents and click on a desired location. This made navigating the book a lot easier. Are there any negatives? A few but they are slight. Occasionally a page is skipped but by going forward a few pages and then going back, you can retrieve the missing page. The ability to go back to the previous page in another part of the book would be nice. For the first time I really think the kindle version is an advantage over the hardback book, and not just for the traveler to have less to carry. It is wonderful to have not only the book's detailed maps with places pinpointed but also Google maps that you can access directly with a tap.
