Great book allows children to take the lead and cook REAL meals! Appeals to both boys and girls.
Finally, there is a cookbook written for children that teaches them how to cook real meals that are healthy, varied, and the whole family can enjoy. So many cookbooks aimed at children are too simple or babyish for older children, focus mainly on baking and desserts, or either have recipes that are so basic they are bland or are way too complex for children to do on their own. This book is near perfection. As a mother of both boys and a girl who all enjoy cooking, I appreciate that the book is truly gender neutral and appeals to all my kids. I love that this book actually TEACHES the kids how to cook. The tutorials or "You've Got Skills" sections are easy to follow and relevant. The recipes themselves are all clear and well thought out. Each recipe has a visual of things that may need parent involvement as well as how to make cooking it a family affair. This is very helpful when choosing recipes for my younger children. It is also wonderful that the recipes are so well written that my 11 year old, who has been trained on kitchen safety, can do everything himself! I suffer from the inability to follow a recipe as written and feel the constant need to "tweak" things. This cookbook has that already written into many of the recipes. It gives the children options and suggestions to make it more appealing to them and their family. I feel this skill is lacking in many cookbooks, especially cookbooks for children. This teaches kids that it is okay to think outside the box and be creative. It teaches them that you can still make something delicious if there is something on the ingredient list you don't like. By following the suggestions in the book, children can learn how to make substitutions that make sense and will work in the recipe. I realize I am gushing over a cookbook, but this one is just so great! This is my new go-to gift for holidays and birthdays. We have discovered so many new favorites through this book. Plus, the kids love that THEY made the meal. I never thought I would hear my nine year old request to make Greek Lemon Drop Chicken Soup for dinner. But, that is one of many recipes from this cookbook that always requires doubling since everyone loves it so much... and we add spinach!

Great for kids and parents in the kitchen.
Great cook book for getting kids involved in the kitchen and taking ownership of the meals. My family found ourselves stuck in a food rut; same items in a cycle and kids not eating "new" foods. We bought this so they (5 & 8) could have a say in the new meals and hopefully decrease dinner time struggles. Parents are going to be more hands on for younger kids. One complaint: it contains the meals we were trying to move away from (burgers, spaghetti, fries, etc), so the kids kinda found a loop hole when selecting their first meals. But they are still excited to find their new meal and get to share their creations with the family.

Good but not sure recipes are suited for kids taste
I liked cookbook itself but I am not sure most kids would eat the majority of recipes. If you have a picky eater or young child and are buying this cookbook for them to try different foods I would not recommend. However, if you have an older child or a child that really likes to try different flavors then this would probably be good. Instructions and layout is good for children learning to cook.

Our favorite kids cookbook by far!
My girls absolutely LOVE this cook book. We have made almost every single recipe from it, no kidding. We have bought kids cookbooks before, but this is by far their favorite, and now the only one they will use! The food is so good, and the directions are so easy to follow for my girls ( 10 and 13). Cannot recommend it enough.

Best Kids' Cookbook
Oh, my. I adore this cookbook! It is, hands-down, the best kids' cookbook I've come across! I love the notes in the Introduction- a note for parents and a separate note just for the kids. They layout is awesome in that it divides up the tasks into Kids, Parents, and Teamwork categories, helping to ensure success! My favorite part of the book is that it's REAL food; family food. These are not kiddie food recipes that nobody else in the family will want to eat. These are meals your whole family will enjoy, all while teaching life-long kitchen skills. I bought this book to give as a gift to some little ones in my life, and I will be purchasing more copies for ALL the little ones in my life. And because the recipes are real food, I believe my 17-year-old may actually enjoy making many of these dishes, too!

Real meals that your kid can make!
We are so impressed with this cookbook. We got this for our 8 yr old that loves cooking and we were looking for some more ideas of things he could make - beyond your basic mac n cheese, quesadillas, english muffin pizzas and sandwiches. Every recipe has a picture of what you're making, the steps are laid out clearly. This is "Grandma's Classic Roasted Chicken", the first recipe we tried, AMAZING! The whole family is having a great time with this, and we are eating lots of delicious new meals!

Putting Kids In-charge in the Kitchen
This fantastic new cookbook not only teaches great cooking skills for kids, it puts them in the primary role of cook with adults as their helper. A great way to instill the importance of cooking food, spending time together in the kitchen and giving kids the sense responsibility they so crave and are capable of with a safe and well explained plan. It has been amazing to see my picky kids try a recipe that they have made themselves. A perfect gift for any family and a must add to your cookbook shelf if you have kids or young adults.

Great Recipe Options
I love that this book is full of recipes that are actually healthy, quality meals for your children (and not just junk like quesadillas and cupcakes.) She had some great tips in there too as far as learning skills with the kids. It's also divided up into who can do what part. It starts with what the kids can do to get started (great leadership opportunity!) then what the adults can do to help, followed by what to do as a team (teamwork!) to finish it out. Love the structure!

Didn't think I would like it but...
"When I got this book as a gift I looked at it and then put it aside thinking I would not like it. A few days later my mom sat down with me and we read through some of the recipes. I now love the book and have even made a few full meals for my family. Some of my favourites are the orange blueberry pancakes and the roast chicken dinner."--Boy, age 11As a mum of two boys I was looking for a book that would get them interested in cooking and learn some important life skills. This cookbook is well laid out and there are lots of explanations for beginner chefs. As the kids advance in skills they can skip instructions but it is very helpful to have everything in one place. I am looking forward to more meals that I haven't had to cook and the kids get lots of joy out of contributing to the family. Highly recommend.

Great way to get kids helping with dinner!
This book is such a fantastic way to get your kids involved with making dinner. My two girls love that they are so close in age to the author's two girls who are featured in the book. This book is unique in that while it's a kids' cookbook, the recipes are fantastic for all ages.

Great kids cook book
This book is nicely laid out with recipes, skills to learn and great photos. My daughter loves that the book notes that she is in charge and the parents are the helpers and also that it gives ideas for where you can adjust since she is a picky eater. We have enjoyed the recipes we have tried so far and look forward to using it more.

Every recipe that my granddaughter has made has been a hit and the recipes have been delicious.
We gave this cookbook to our granddaughter who turned 11. She loves it and has made several recipes now with the cookbook. It is so user friendly for her and I have enjoyed working with her while preparing a couple of the recipes. In fact a friend of mine has bought the same book for her two granddaughters.
