Great Bear Wild: Dispatches from a Northern Rainforest

I rarely buy a book of this type. Nowhere to put them. But this book is so unusual. If you have visited the coast of western Canada, you know that there are few places on earth as will as this any more, particularly on the ocean. You will not be disappointed. The pictures are wonderful. The narrative very informative. Buy this book and share it with your friends. This fragile environment needs friends to defend it against economic development that will spoil one of the few places that can still be called a paradise.

This is a fantastic book. The writing and the photography is magical. You won't be disappointed!!If you can't afford to go to British Columbia, buy this book. You will feel like you have been transported to a wonderful and unspoiled paradise!This would be a great gift for any Nature lover.

Beautiful photography and written by Ian McAlister who is committed to conservation in this unique place. Just returned from a trip to the Great Bear Rainforesr and it is as amazing as the book describes!

Beautifully written and incredible photos...heartbreaking what man has done to the world of animals

The photos in this book are absolutely gorgeous. My 6-year-old grandson was mesmerized by them, and I'm using it as a teaching opportunity!

There aren't enough photo books on bears. Bears are awesome. It's also tough to find any sort of information about grizzly bears in a nice format, let alone a photo book so beautiful is this.This combines unbelievably beautiful photography with awesome information about the bears themselves, and the area that they live in.It's quite big so it makes the perfect coffee table book or would make an even better gift. I gave this to my girlfriend who adores bears, and she's read it well over five or six times. This is without doubt one of the best bear photography books out there and trust me we've got about 10 in our house!

If this book does not entice you to visit the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia, no book will. It paints a most attractive picture in words to complement the excelled photographs. It is written by a true lover of nature. You too can experience the thrill of seeing the bears of the forest, including the Spirit Bear and all the other wild life that is being preserved for generations to come.

Come tutti gli altri libri di Ian è un'opera che racconta la delicatezza e fragilità di un ecosistema ancora quasi intatto , e nel nostro bellissimo pianeta ne sono rimasti purtroppo davvero pochi, descrivendo la dura vita dei suoi magici abitanti che dovremo imparare a proteggere e non perseguitare.E' un opera correlata da splendide ed uniche immagini ed è consigliato solo a chi è in grado di ascoltare veramente la natura ....perché è un libro che si legge con il cuore.... ed io che questi posti li ho solo lambiti , riesco davvero ad immergermi attraverso le sue descrizioni in questi magici luoghi , ultime roccaforti di una natura ancora selvaggia e libera.Ho comprato comunque questo libro anche se in lingua inglese , sia per esercitarmi nella lettura e comprensione, sia perché so che acquistandolo ho potuto contribuire , nel mio piccolo, a dare una mano alla causa di un uomo , della sua famiglia e di ricercatori volontari davvero straordinari . I proventi delle vendite infatti aiutano a finanziare la ricerca e la protezione di questa unica ma fragile ultima foresta pluviale.Tra le pagine infatti è chiaro il lavoro immane che hanno dovuto affrontare nella stesura di questa sorta di diario che racconta non solo la storia ma descrive la flora dei e dei suoi più segreti abitanti come lupi , orsi , salmoni ed anche i primi uomini che come loro hanno dovuto affrontare viaggi estenuanti in condizioni atmosferiche davvero estreme ma per godere alla fine di un esperienza unica nella natura che davvero è in grado di elevare lo spirito. Ringrazio Ian e tutti i suoi collaboratori per avermi fatto parte di tutto questo anche solo leggendo questo semplice libro , con la promessa di fare di più per proteggere questo delicato equilibrio che dobbiamo preservare tra uomo e natura, perché ne vale del nostro arricchimento personale .
