I See You [輸入盤CD](YTCD161)

フジロックのヘッドライナーとのことで、今年も行くかどうか検討のため購入。 一聴では地味な音楽。？2回目から男女のポーカルの一見穏やかなかけいが、ミニマルなビートの上でじわじわと染みてくる。 なんて美しいんだろう。3回目でビートや曲の展開に注目すると、外見では平熱を保っているのに揺れ動く心の中のようなドラマティックさが隠されていて、気がついたら引き込まれている。 彼らの音楽は発明だった。フジロックで彼らを体感したい。

XXの三枚目の作品で、コエグジストよりもより、聴きやすくて、心地好さのあるPOPさに、初期のダークなアプローチとは、正反対のアレンジをどの楽曲にも、おとしこまれていて、メジャーに通用する完成度の、Albumトータルで、何度も繰り返し聴きたくなる、楽曲の構成だと、感じました。

ミュージックマガジンの評を読んで聴いてみました。いまは懐かしいニューウェイブを思い出させてくれました。あの頃のオーストラリアのバンド、アイスハウスのリーダー、アイヴァ・デービスの曲や歌い方を彷彿とさせてくれます。80年代のヨーロッパや日本のニューウェイブサウンド、ギターやボーカルの深めのリバーブが大好きな方、必聴ですよ。

そのまんま彼らの音楽でありながら、すごーく進化しています。成長著しいとはこの事でしょう。捨て曲なし。買って良かった！

通勤中ラジオから流れてくる曲で調べたら、このアルバムに行き当たりました。好きな曲が有るので通勤中聴いてます。

全体的に前２作にみられたThe xxならではのあまりにもメランコリックな雰囲気は薄れていて、全体的にポップなアルバムに仕上がっててちょっとビックリです。直近作ではJamie xxの”In Colour”とも違う。 割とポップな”Say Something Loving””On Hold”、もはやThe xxとは思えない大変ポップな”I Dare You”、ちょっと風変わりで楽しめる”Lips”などがその代表なのでしょうが、それでもThe xxの独自の世界観は持っていると思います。全体的に適度にメランコリック？でありながら聴きやすく、かつ楽しめるアルバムに仕上がっているかと思います。

The xxの3rdアルバムです。 過去２作は内向的でメランコリックな作風でしたが今作は少しポップになりました。 Jamieのソロも１つの転機になったんですかね。 だが大衆に媚びたというより自然と外向きな姿勢に変化していってると捉えた方がいいかもしれません。 ポップと言ってもチープな感じはなく、芸術性は１つも失われていません。 今まで通りクールでスタイリッシュ、ちょっとだけ聴きやすくなったというだけのことです。 多少の変化もありつつ、今作も素晴らしい出来と言えます。

１、２枚目の湛えていた静謐は遮光性カーテンを浴びた暗くしっとりとした空間だとするならば 今作は薄暗い夜明けの前の柔らかな春の光が部屋を暖かく照らしているような空間だと思う。 インタビューにもあるように彼らはポップを否定しない。アデルやドレイクを否定しない。 その器量の大きさ、守備範囲の広さが伺える一枚だ。 Burial譲りの打ち込みをこれでもかと言わんばかりにループして踊らせてくれるM1から変化に 気付かされるが、基幹としての彼らのメロディセンスはさらに卓越したものになっていた。 内省的で悲観的な若者が外的な方向へ向かうような。彼らの来日を見て、演奏中の笑顔を何度も見た。 こちらも嬉しくなった。その笑顔がこのアルバムを象徴していた。

The 3rd XX album is still recognisably them, but overall with a much more optimistic feel, and dance beats are included on some tracks, and it is far less melancholic than the previous 2 albums. The characteristic trademark that is still outstanding is the gorgeous vocal interplay between guitarist Romy Madley Croft and Bassist Oliver Sim. There singing on this album is stronger, more confident and assured, as they have matured and gained more live and studio experience, their vocal prowess has improved, and the duo singing here is probably their best to date, with some spine tingling moments. Jamie Smith is responsible for the synthesiser, drums and keyboards, adding musical colour and texture to make distinctive arrangements. After his solo album a couple of years ago that was more dance orientated, on this new album several of the tracks have a more upbeat dancing rhythm that drives them along more insistently. This is in evidence from the opening track Dangerous, with its opening salvo of synthesiser "brass", followed by an insistent dance beat, with the vocals then coming in, one of the albums infectious highlights . The previous album was recorded in a basement studio in London in an intense period, while on this album there have been a wide range of studios from Iceland to New York and Los Angeles over a much longer period, which seem to give a wider range of more open arrangements, some with a more sunny upbeat disposition . The unique sound that they launched with on their debut album and followed up on their 2nd album has been very influential on others, and incredibly successful. This latest album moves them forward , and is likely to be one of the most popular albums of 2017. There have already been a couple of hit singles released before the main album, and there has been a sense of anticipation about the "difficult 3rd album" which many groups suffer from. The stunning surprise with the unique originality of their debut album has gone, but their production and stagecraft has improved, and they obviously have far more resources at their disposal nowadays. Growing up in public under the spotlight, they have managed to maintain their unique selling proposition and still stand out from the masses. The one element that for me seems a bit of a gimmick that does not quite work is their sample of Hall and Oates used on On Hold . My other minor irritation is that the small print size and style on a strong blue background in the CD booklet make the lyrics and other information incredibly difficult to read, which is frustrating, and poor design, and renders the information unintelligible ,which seems a waste of time and effort . Overall this is a fine new album , and they have managed to improve their standing, it has been critically lauded, so well done for maintaining the momentum onwards and upwards .

I have always loved duets, but their songs step it up. I get lost in the flow of their lyrics as their voices blend and transition over one another. Really well crafted. Love every song. Whoever manufactured the CD's however meh. Never saw this before, but the music side of the CD came in with this crystal like pattern. I actually tried playing it but it skipped after the 2nd song. I did see another customer had a problem too. I returned the first one back to Amazon and got another one in a day or two. But the same exact thing. I figured on the second one I would try cleaning it. I used eyeglass cleaner and tissue paper to not scratch. I think water and gentleness would work too. But cleaned and no problems. Now I don't know if the words on the inside of the liner were printed intentionally inversed or was it a manufacturing problem. If intentional, COOL!

Absolutely fantastic third album from The xx. If you're a fan of The xx, you'll love this evolution of the band's sound.

Overall it was good, but vinyl arrived bent at the corners.

Das Album ist ein rundherum gelungener Auftakt ins neue Jahr. Mir gefällt es sehr viel besser als "Coexist" (das mir ehrlich gesagt, nicht besonders ans Herz gewachsen ist). Eher ist I See You die Weiterentwicklung ihres ersten Albums gepaart mit neuen Klängen. XXtypische, minimalistische Beats und die melancholischen Gesänge sind ebenso vorhanden, wie neue, experimentelle Refrains und Klänge. Das Album ist insgesamt etwas poppiger ausgefallen und damit gleichzeitig massetauglicher. Das kann den immer noch in ihren 20ern steckenden Bandmitgliedern entweder zum Vorwurf gemacht werden - oder es wird genutzt, um sich anstecken zu lassen von der sympathisch rotzigen Lebendigkeit, die schon im ersten Song "Dangerous" zu hören ist. Das Album ist im besten Sinne modern, experimentell und klingt "angekommen". Nur auf die drum machine könnten sie beim nächsten Album verzichten. Das ist aber auch der einzige Kritikpunkt.
