Works better than other units of same cooling capacity.
Bought this because I needed another unit, and since I already have a Whynter unit like this, I knew how good they are. And this one is no different......works great, cools fast, and not very loud. Installation was easy and straight forward. The dual hose design makes it very efficient.

use it my way and it will last a long time......
I bought the first one in 2017 and the second one 2018 and both work flawlessly. Here is the only way to operate it which will cause the least wear.1) turn power on. (left button as you face it)2) press the '3 function button' to the 'compressor' symbolized by the gear. (next to the power button)3) press the temperature button down to 60 degrees4) let it run continuously all day ( this is much better than cycling on and off)5) when you are ready to turn off the a/c cooling, press the '3 function button' two times (leaves the gear symbol, passes over the dehumidifier setting, [water drops symbol] and land on the fan setting, [fan blade symbol](do not press the power button 'first') The fan only function will cool the compessor and evaporate water condensation throughout the system6) after 5-10 minute press the power button to off.7) when you start it up, press the power button (the function button will still be on fan )8) press the function button once and the selector will leave the fan setting and go up to the gear/compressor9) at the end of this shift repeat the above. press the function button 2 times to fan, let it run 5-10 min then presspower button.Position the unit in a strategic place in the right size roombuy a/c hose wrap and wrap the exhaust hose as it get hotMy unit is in a slightly larger roam than suggested but I am able to shut doors and limit the cold leaking. My second unit is in my bedroom and easily cools that 1500 sf roomI did not like the compressor going on and off knowing its harder on the compressor,If you press the function button where the compressor goes on then off, it will take 3-5 minutes for the compressor to come back on even though the settings are correct. Safety feature.I ordered an extra set of hoses and 3d printed couplers in order to get the unit to sit in my corner. Used the hose insulation for arrest the radiating heat from the long hose. I also made a custom window panel that I doweled into the sill and the lower edge of the window frame so it can't be pushed in, and added top wedge boards so the window can't be lifted. same as locked window security. I recommended to daughters mom 2016 also works perfect still. I like to write a review especially for an expensive decision that is receiving confusing reviews. I appreciate it when I find a definitive review that helps me make a wise decision. The compressor has a 5 year warranty and I believe my 2 will last and I am suggesting this unit to my son. People saying it doesn't cool as well as a window unit is vague and confusing. You use the square foot capacity to determine if it will work for you. Window fans comes in all capacities and some will be less and some will be more but they come with their own challenges and for me I APPRECIATE THE QUALITY OF THIS UNIT, IT DOES WHAT IT CLAIMS TO DO.

Has worked flawlessly for 2 summers, make that 3
Product is rated for about 500sqft, but we used it to cool a 740sqft apartment for the past two summers. Temps were over 100°F in the day and in the 80's overnight for many days, and while this unit struggled a bit, it definitely kept the space liveable! With night time temperatures even in the 70's, this unit produces plenty of cold air. It is heavy, and it is loud. This thing sat directly behind my computer chair because of limited options to exhaust it in our space, and I could turn my Windows volume down by 20 after turning the unit off. If it's farther away, or in another room entirely, the noise is much less of an issue. We found that fans in the room greatly increase its effectiveness. You will want multiple people to install or move this thing. Overall, I'm very pleased with its performance and glad that I bought it.Edit: now on its third year without maintenance or repair, and we've moved from a ~740sqft apartment to one that's about 1100sqft. This thing still keeps up! Again, some fans throughout to help distribute the air go a long way. One more note I will add, is mind where you plug it in. The unit can draw up to 1250W! We accidentally put it on a 10A circuit that was shared with two power hungry workstations and tripped the breaker! Still highly recommend!

Won't turn off, not working properly. (working now no issues since)
2nd UPDATE:2020: Still use every summer and it is still working good...so 6 years now/6 summers? I use it in a sunroom and it really helps cool that room down.UPDATE: Updating to 4 stars; Whynter customer service has been very responsive; and I found out these come with 3 year compressor warranty, which is great. Turns out tho the air conditioner actually fixed itself, I forced it to run one day since the cooling action was working, and at the end of the day it did turn off when I hit the off button, so I have been using it this past week with no issues. Whytner thinks the compressor may have been over amping. So just waiting to hear back if I should wait it out and see if happens again or if they want to replace it or what. If this issue had not come up it I would have given it 5 stars because it really does cool great and has low noise. I like the mobility of being able to move it to different rooms if I choose.Purchased last summer, worked great. Only been using it for about a few times this 2nd summer and suddenly something keeps running inside it even when turned off..it is like a low humming/buzzing noise. It sounds like the compressor that won't stop running and it sounds off from its normal sound. So now it is hot and I have no air conditioner. $600 is a lot for a unit that has only been used for a couple months last year off and on, and just a month this year off and on, so not real happy with it. Waiting to hear back from Whytner; hopefully they will stand behind their product and either fix it or replace it even though it was purchased last year. I'll update review later and either raise or lower stars depending on their product support etc.

Works great and the price has come down!
Purchased 4 years ago...we've been using it for several months in the summer months and it works great for cooling our bedroom to sleep comfortably. It really puts out cold air rather quickly -- we only need to put it on for about an hour before bed and the whole room is cool. Highly recommend and would purchase again!
