Say hello to a superior ice cream scoop
Just bought this and it is awesome! Stainless steel and dishwasher safe. Got it for my mom who is getting older and doesn't have the same wrist strength. She'd always used a large regular spoon and that just isn't working anymore for her. The first time this slid into a new gallon of ice cream it melted the surrounding ice cream into liquid. We looked at each other like it was magic. I think it has something to do with the surface area of the spade. We tried it on hard ice cream a week later and it cut through it better than any scoop I've owned. The length gives you more leverage so it's easier on your wrist. It was perfect for my mom. I've been so impressed with this product that I plan on buying one for every member of my family. Being able to see my mom not struggle with ice cream in her old age made this thing worth every penny and then some. The design, the materials, and how it performs is outstanding. Can HIGHLY recommend.Edit: Bought this in 2015 and now it's 2024. It still looks brand new, not a single hint of rust anywhere. It's hands down the best ice cream scoop I've ever owned. 9 years later I still think this thing is infused with some kind of magic.

A good tool that can be made excellent
This tool is built to last. The blade is stamped from heavy duty 14 gauge (0.0747") stainless. The rugged plastic handle on the one I received was flawless. This scoop will last several lifetimes.I did find two problems with the blade: 1) The edges (corners) of the die cut blade were very sharp. 2) The metal is thick and minimally sharpened at the cutting edge. The tool required a lot of force in hard frozen ice cream compared to my vintage Sealtest spade which is made from much thinner aluminum.I broke the sharp edges with 150 grit sand paper and sharpened the cutting edge with a smooth bastard file (you don't wan't a knife edge here, just about half as thick), then smoothed the edges with 400 wet or dry sandpaper used wet. I am very satisfied with the result, and haven't deducted a star because I'm anal about my tools and at the price this is an outstanding value.

It's hard to find a good ice cream spade
It's hard to find a good ice cream spade. This one fit the bill, very solid and comfortable in the hand. Minor imperfection on the molded handle, which could be sanded down if necessary. This spade appears to be built to last, and the blade cuts through cleanly. Might purchase a second one to use for when this one is in the dishwasher.

Very good back-up or main item to have for ice cream.
These items are heavily prized (versus the $20 scoops, which are not ideal for cutting through really hard ice cream in the Minnesota winters or the freezers in general) around the home, because you can easily cut out what you want and go. Dishwasher safe, and very easy to clean and store.

Works well
Easy to use, much better for sore hands than a regular scoop. Makes for a fun national ice cream day gift. Easy to clean.

Me, it's ok
This is not as "beefy" as our original one we had for at least 10 years. It's ok and does the job of getting ice cream from the container but I think we'll keep looking for the scoop we used to have when things were made way better than they are now.

Excellent product!!!
Well built, easy to use. I use it mainly on Baskin Robbin's 5 gallon tubs of ice cream (monthly) and it works great. When using it you have to remember that it is not a scoop and is meant to take out chinks of ice cream. I highly recommend this product.

Not for me
I have an ice cream scoop that I got years ago from Schwann Foods. I thought another one would be useful so I started looking. Can't find the Schwann's scoop anywhere so I thought this would be a good substitute. It's well made, but awkward to use trying to get frozen ice cream out of a paper carton. It may work at the Ice Cream Parlor, but not like the one I have from Schwanns.
