Arthur (Sam Mraovich) wants desperately to be married to his lover, complete with a legal certificate, while Ben (Jamie Brett Gabel) doesn't see the need to drag law into it and is happy with the way things are. Arthur s own brother, Victor, is a major obstacle to his plans: a religious fanatic obsessed with saving his brother from a sinful lifestyle. Just as the happy couple finally starts making progress with their wedding plans, Victor shows up with sin on his mind and a gun in his hand. Ready and willing to do whatever he thinks necessary, Victor pulls the trio into a dramatic chain of events that culminates in a showdown between the forces of religious conviction and the strength of a man in love.

Silly and implausible, but a lot of fun
I finally got to see this film. Been waiting to see it for ages. It was worth the wait.Silly, implausible plot but still a lot of fun. Most of the acting was on the amateurish side but it did not deter from enjoying the story.Everyone seemed to have guns in this spoof of a film. Seemed a bit far fetched. Maybe that was the intent. The ending was like one of Verdi’s tragic, unbelievable opera conclusions where the characters all come to an unfortunate demise.(For example: « La Forza del Destino »)I don’t think I’d watch it again unless a few friends would like to see it. We would get some good laughs together.

Terrible in all the right ways
I'm not sure if Ben & Arthur is a passion project from someone with no knowledge or experience in film and no money or talent, or if it i clever ruse to get the director (Sam Mraovich) to make-out with a semi-attractive man. IMDB estimates that this film cost 40 grand and it shows. The acting is terrible. The entire thing looks like a bad YouTube video from 2008. The score is all public domain songs, like The Entertainer and none of them make sense for the scene they are used in. The sets are terrible; they have exterior shots of a church, but the actual church set is made of tissue paper (where we can see light glaring through the gaps in the corners) and a cross that they clearly made out of cardboard. The effects are garbage with "tricks" like putting a cigarette in a fake gun to mimic the smoking barrel. The plot makes no sense both because things just happen for no reason and entire plot lines just disappear. Ben & Arthur is easily a half star movie, but it's enjoyable in a good bad movie way. It's unintentionally hilarious the entire time. It totally fails as the gay rights movie it thinks it is, but it offers plenty or laughs. Ben & Arthur is only of any value if you enjoy "good bad" movies. On every technical level, it is absolutely awful, but is is a blast for those exact reasons.

SPOILERS
This is my favourite film hands down. Sam takes you on a roller coaster of emotions while we see the lovely couple, Ben and Arthur, have their love tested once and again by law, human and divine. The best thing about it, though, is that they all die at the end. And the chapel, that's pretty good too.

One of the better movies I’ve ever seen.
Victor was great. His holy water making friend was even better. But the “hit man” stole the show.

Very disappointing - like a home made movie
Very disappointing - like a home made movie, poor plot combined with poor acting. A waste of money - we threw it in the bin afterwards!
